Hey Knowledge-Base,

If my M1 carbine is setting in a bench rest and I carefully feed the cleaning brass rod through the barrel is a bore guide really necessary?

I've tried to use two of the commercially available ones and both were a pain to use.

Thanks.....

the army doesn't issue bore guides.
So true bearcat6.
In '65-'66 and again in '68-'70 I hauled a mess of great Army infantry all over Vietnam in a C-130A. By the looks of some of them I wouldn't image any 'bore guides' for their M1 carbines or M16's. Maybe I should have asked, but I think I might have been laughed at, had my butt kicked, or worse. Those boys were hard at getting the job done. (With the support of some of us in the air.)

M118LR- Just ordered two, one for my M1 & Winchester model '94 and one for my wife's Henry Golden Boy .22LR.

Thanks guys.....

No, a bore guide isn't really necessary, especially if you get one of the carbon fiber cleaning rods referenced above and exercise due care.
CaptainGyro- Thanks! I can always depend on you for advise......!
