I've uploaded my first video to my YouTube channel. It's a tutorial on how to install the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit into a Ruger Mark IV.

I'm not a gunsmith (nor a videosmith) by any means, so I'd sure appreciate constructive criticism from such an august crowd as the one here on the GunHub. Let me know if I made any glaring errors, or if you know of any tricks of the trade I should have passed along. If you feel like giving it a thumbs-up I sure wouldn't complain.

I didn't have time to watch the whole video Cap'n, but the audio/visual was excellent (surprising how often that is not the case). You were articulate and perfectly understandable. :thumbsup:

Thanks Ed. It's a fairly long video about a rather technical subject...really only interesting to someone trying to do the installation. Still, I bet you watched longer than my daughters. Their viewing went something like this:

Oh I know the feeling. I think my sons are older now (19 and 22) but they are both on the ADD/AHD spectrum. I tried getting them into cryptography, and such and they just couldn't hang. I could never compete with videogames and social media.

Can you describe the rig you used and the editing software and audio equipment?

Yeah Geoff. Some of that was kind of a challenge.

The camera is a Sony HDR-CX220. For the over-the-shoulder shots I had the camera mounted on a conventional tripod on my left, and I stood to the right, working at an angle. It was slightly awkward, but doable.

For the shots in the vise I used this clip to mount the camera facing me:

For the money it worked very well, and I'm going to find quite a few uses for it.

I didn't use any special sound equipment...just the mic in the camera since I was pretty close to it the whole time.

For the basic editing (joining clips and adding transitions) I used iMovie on the Mac. Then I used the editing features in YouTube to add the labels.

I've done a little reasearch and I think I'm going to invest a hundred bucks in Screenflow. It seems to be pretty popular among YouTube videographers:

It's really a beauty, isn't it? I did that in the shop a few weeks ago when a bolt slammed closed on a pistol (I can't remember now which one).

It's been really interesting to watch it slowly move forward as the nail grows. When it first happened it was down at the base; now it's more than half way grown out.
