Hey Folks,

Months ago I managed to ruin the receiver and bolt on my old IBM M1 carbine. I posted the issue then and cried.

After several weeks of "what-do-I-do" I bite the bullet and ordered a receiver, barrel, and bolt from the folks a Fulton Armory. My plan was to use the M1's good parts and build up a shooter. Later I'll find a USGI receiver for the good USGI barrel I have. That way I can restore the carbine back to USGI.

Anyway, after a painful 12 week wait my parts arrived. I quickly put my USGI parts on the Fulton barrel and receiver. All the carbine parts smoothly fit up without a hitch.

I'll go to the range this week and give the carbine a run. I'm excited, but kinda broke. Oh well, life is short....

Your kind words are appreciated. They go a long way helping me feel good about spending the $900 for a barrel, receiver, and bolt.

I gotta say that doing business with Fulton Armory, (Clint jr.), was a pleasure. I even got to speak with one of their Armorers (sp) and ask questions.

Now I'll save up my beer allowance and find a USGI receiver for my old barrel. Having the ability to make my old IBM carbine a USGI 'mixmaster' again will stop me feeling like I violated the M1 carbine code of ethics.

First Shooting New Fulton 'Stuff'

Hey All,

My wife and I took my old IBM M1 carbine with the new Fulton Armory barrel, receiver, and bolt out for the first shooting. WOW, what a great little carbine it is now. Not at all like the old loose as a goose barrel and receiver that had a bolt failure.

We ran 102 rounds through it without a 'stove pipe' or a 'miss chamber'. Before we would always get at least one hick-up per 15 round clip. Very, Very nice to shoot. now….!!

I know, I know, the carbine is no longer a 'USGI' by any stretch of imagination, but I still have the good barrel and when I find a USGI receiver I will be able to revert it back to one. (Should I ever want to sell it.) Until then I can shoot the little carbine and not worry.

By the way, Fulton Armory is great to deal with. Their products are exemplary in all aspects. Maybe a little pricy, but you get what you pay for. AND us carbine guys are worth it....!

The carbine is a great little rifle, and fun to shoot. I have a Winchester that is incredibly accurate and functions well. Your's will give you great service.

One quibble with your post: that thing that you stick in the bottom of the Carbine that holds the rounds and feeds them into the chamber is the magazine. The clip is the stripper mechanism that you can use to load the mag. This may sound like a trivial point, but with the anti-gun left being so promiscuous with their firearms terminology (e.g. "fully semi-auto", "hi-capacity clips", "high-power assault rifles", etc, etc) it behooves us to remain pure and accurate.

The simple way to remember: a clip feeds a mag.

another monor quibble: a STRIPPER clip feeds a magazine. A regular clip holds your girl's hair. A 1911 .45 uses a magazine, not a clip.

Not every clip that feeds a magazine is a stripper clip... the Garand, for instance.

I was taught that a magazine has a spring, but a clip does not.
Are there any exceptions to this generalization?

...and if you consider that the cylinder of a double-action revolver serves as it's magazine, then a moon clip feeds the magazine.

Stripper clips, en-bloc clips, moon clips...they all feed mags. I can't think of a single instance where a clip exists for a firearm that doesn't have a magazine (either internal or removable), and I can't think of a single instance where said clip is used for any other purpose than to load said mag.

My-Bad and your comments/education are duly noted. Sometimes the fastest way up a learning curve is to step on your pecker along the way.
