Deb teaches Zumba at a Decatur Church a couple of times a week, usually fairly early in the morning when there isn't anyone there, except for the secretary.

Apparently, people often show up to the church in need of money...cash. Not parishioners mind you. Street folks. Some in Escalades, believe it or not. And they can get somewhat...demanding. And quite angry when told there was no money available. She told me she felt threatened at times, thought she should start carrying a gun. I thought it was a great idea.

Anyway, she wanted something light. I gave her a choice between my S&W Shield in 9mm, and my S&W Airweight 642 in .38 Special. She chose the S&W Airweight.

Took her out to the backyard with it yesterday, and she did very well with it with 158 grain LSWC HP's. We stayed at the 5 yard line. I also had some Remington 125 gr SJHP + P's on hand, but she preferred the LSWC load...said it had less recoil to her.

She even told me that she could tell she started anticipating the recoil after a while. I swear, she's s natural. :D

That target is attached to a regulation IDPA target.

Excellent choice. A better point-n-click tool as that's all one needs to do other than paying attention to the sights, etc.

I felt the revolver was a better choice, but I wanted her to make up her own mind. The big problem for her was slide manipulation. She has a problem retracting a slide on just about any semi auto.

Which is strange, 'cause I'd bet money she's stronger than I am.

I feel better knowing that she has a tool available to her if needed. And I did stress to her that if she pulls it out, she needs to understand it ain't a magic wand. The only thing you can do with it is shoot. But she's smarter than the average bear... Pretty sure she knew that.

maybe not in the wrist- say what you like, but I've taught enough pistol that I have formed the opinion that women's wrists are somewhat more fragile unless they're used to it- a lot of my buddies that are still serving say that the biggest problem women have is manipulating the slide- to the point of putting in weaker springs.

I have sort of come to that conclusion myself, T-Star. Both of my adult daughters, neither of whom, like their mother, are "weak" women, chose revolvers over semi-auto's (gifted by me) for precisely the same reason.

I know there are plenty of women who carry and shoot semi-autos. Hell, I've met more than a few. But the women closest to me all seem to have an issue with this.

One of my SAPD friends is buying S&W Model 10s with 4 inch barrels for his wife and daughters. Then I replace the rebound and hammer spring with Wolfe springs. Also clean and re-lube the internal parts.

I can sure understand your better half's choice. My oldest daughter picked my nickel plated Airweight Bodyguard when it came time to "arm her up". My youngest picked my Detective Special (2nd Model).

It only hurt for a minute. ;)
