And the Journey continues! This is breath-taking. All you guys are going to love this Navy clip. This amazing drone can stop on a dime! History in the making, Friends!

Be sure to read the paragraph below. Makes you proud of the technology in our marvelous, FREE country!

Video of a stealth jet (X-47B) taking off & landing on USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH aircraft carrier.

The Navy successfully conducted take-offs and landings from a fairly new nuclear aircraft carrier, the USS George H.W. Bush, with a new stealth jet called the X-47B. This video is completely cleared by the U.S, Navy. What is so different about this plane is the fact that it is a 'drone'. It is completely unmanned. Drones come in all sizes, and the X-47B is likely one of the larger ones.

What is so amazing about all this is the enemy cannot detect a plane like this in the first place. And, in the unlikely event they get lucky at shooting one down, there will be no human loss of life or captivity.

As you view the flight deck crew signaling the plane, realize they are simply signaling the on-board cameras, who in turn are being manned by staff on the deck and inside the command intelligence center (CIC) on-board the ship! INCREDIBLE

Having served as an ADJ (Aviation Machinist's Mate, Jet) I can appreciate the drones. While they lack the "human element" they are quite efficient. The never tire, rarely err and are ready to serve at a moment's notice.

Bless 'em all!

And they also don't have the annoying habit of second-guessing orders... don't get me wrong, I'm a believer in unmanned combat aircraft systems too, but as a Force Multiplier to let our human crews do more than as a Front Line. (Example, an F-22 or F-35 "flight leader" controlling his own bird and three UCAV wingmen, though at first I'd expect it to be the GIB in a Mudhen or Stupidhornet on director duty.)

Why do we need a full size carrier to launch them? It seems to me to be a force multiplier for an amphibious landing ship. Just add a catapult and a simple arresting net and your ship now has fighter/strike capabilities.

Might require the logistical and sensor support of a larger platform, but way cool... and way scary for the bad guys.
