Per Stars & Stripes, the USA is close to formal adoption of a new DMR. The proposed solution is the HK SDM-R, a somewhat modified semi auto sniper rifle. OAL is given as 36 inches, caliber 7.62 x 51 mm. They give two weights, 10 and 12 lbs. I expect one is with, the other without the suppressor shown mounted in all photos. The photos suggest the OAL is without suppressor. Geissele provides trigger and sight (?) rail, Sig the optic (1-6 variable).

Troop trials completed at Ft Bliss, any final adjustments to follow shortly. Projected order of around 7K rifles and accessories.

Again, per Stars & Stripes, shipments are supposed to start in August this year. There's mention of a Next Generation Squad Weapon, which, from the article, seems to be something like the USMC M27, but in 6.8 mm. I won't hold my breath on that one since there's some stuff in the article that doesn't compute.

Looked up the rifle (G28 variant) on the HK website, weight is given at around 16 lbs with scope, no ammo. Bet the guys stuck with it will love that. The military version of the PSG1 is actually lighter, but not by much.
