Yesterday I stopped by Academy Sports here in Decatur Alabama, intending to possibly buy some ammo if anything. But I wound up buying a new Remington RM380, their new DAO pocket .380. It's made here in Alabama! In Huntsville --- just a stone's throw NE of me.
How can I NOT have one gun made here in the beltbuckle of the Biblebelt?
I know some people are suspicious of Remington after the R51 situation. I too had one of those, the interior workmanship was icky ... and so forth....but the 2.0 version they replaced it with is fine. And this new .380 seems well made inside & out.
The only quirk is the funky takedown pin. Yes it does slide out if you align the holes and hold it sideways. But cycling it normally doesn't allow this, of course, and takedown and assembly is easy.
The R51 ....um, not so much.
All in all IMHO I think Remington may have redeeemed itself.

Now, to see how this thing shoots.

I saw one at the LGS, it looked very nice. I'll be keeping an eye on it, because at some point I'm going to buy a .380 for pocket carry. But I prefer a gun be out for at least 5 years before I buy one for defense...that's just me though. Please give us the report out when you get a chance to really play with it.
