No CaptianGyro I'm not from the pines, I am very familiar with Warrens Grove range though. I was working in Tuckerton with a consulting engineering firm. I would drive down 539 almost every day. Were you there when one of the Wort Hogs crashed? I remember that day quit well....lots of action on 539 that day. I loved watching the go threw there manuvers and target shooting.

The twentypines comes from our farm name because there were twenty pines here before Sandy. We live in a town in Monmouth County, that is more centrally located in the state and close to the shore.

The Warthog crash must have been after my time. I was flying A-37's out of Willow Grove, and my unit transitioned to Hogs right after I left. One of my good friends died in a Hog, but that was a stall-spin accident in the traffic pattern.

This incident that I mentioned happened around 1993-1994 not quite sure of that but some time around there.....sorry to hear about you friend. Ive lost lots of buddies in the past. You still flying?

Tell ya a funny incident that happened about two years ago near the Grove one of the hogs dropped a bunch of fired casings on a school roof in there fly pattern, caused quite a ruckus for a while.....no one was at the school when it happened and no students were involved, but the media had to make a big what if ya know. I know when I was a young boy,I would have been thrilled to collect the brass from any source.:)

Hmm...I wonder if you're thinking of a potentially serious incident at Warren Grove a few years ago.

There's a Master Arm switch on most tactical aircraft. Think of it like the safety on a firearm. It's guarded by a red cover that you flip up to expose the switch. The usual protocol in weapons delivery is to flip the switch to the armed position at the beginning of a hot pass, release the weapon, then slap the Master Arm off again.

In the subject incident, and F-16 was in the strafe pattern with the Master Arm activated (i.e., not safe). Evidently he tickled the trigger a little early, and hosed a stream of 20mm off into the next zip code. The rounds didn't have much energy left by the time they hit the ground, but a few impacted the roof of a school. Luckily it was at night, and no youngsters were endangered.

Here's a link to an article about the incident:

After reading your article on the incident it sounds like that may have been it, Boy when you hit my age everything seams like the other day and that was ten years ago. I could have sworn it was a bunch of loose brass, hey at 68 I have those CRS moments.

IN the case of the pilot that strafed that school. Believe me he got much more then a talkin to.

twentypines,

There ARE several of us here who are past 65YY & I call us the "EOF group". = The EOF certainly understand what you're describing, even if the young sprouts do not.
(Our friend CP said some time ago that he preferred to be called "experienced", rather than an "OF". - Since then, I've changed my acronym to: "EOF". ====> RotflmRao.)

Welcome sir,

The only negative with this forum is that there isn't a ton of activity. That's because there aren't a bunch of brainless idiots who just drone on about things just to make noise.

On the more positive side, because those idiots tend to congregate elsewhere, what you get here tends to be very good.

The knowledge base here is very high. People on this forum truly know what they're talking about. You don't get BS disguised as "fact". One thing I like here is this:

When someone presents something as fact, you can bet it's fact. If it's not fact, someone will call them to the carpet quickly, but generally politely, asking them to back up their assertion and make their case.

Otherwise, opinions are opinions and generally stated as so.

So this place is refreshing because people are much better behaved. And guys here really have a good deal of knowledge to share.

I'm a gunsmith also, so if you ever have questions, feel free to ask. There are some other gunsmiths who hang out here also. But we're all just gun nuts who love to talk about guns.

Welcome sir!!

Gentleman: Then this is the rite place for me! I tell it like I see it and do not like to be BS If I don't know something I will certainly say so. So far I have found this site as a very informative place, I am glad I was told about it by someone from another site that I frequent.

twentypines,

Reference the folks here, I'll go a step further: They are HELPFUL to other members.

On several occasions, members here have gone out of their way to research subjects and find "hard to locate" parts for other members, without even asking for a "thank you" in return.

yours, sw
