I posted a while back about being in a position to scratch some long held itches. I was thinking about getting an Ed Brown. Wanted a Commander sized 1911 with the bob-tail frame. The more I thought about it, the less enthused I was about laying out $2,500 or so and waiting 8 to 12 months.

Charlie recommended checking out the S&W 1911 SC "E" series. I did due diligence on line, and it looked pretty damned good, but I couldn't find one in stock ANYWHERE.

I remembered Kimber made a bob-tail type pistol. Called a large local gun store in Huntsville and they had a Kimber Super Carry Pro in stock (several actually). So I picked it up yesterday.

Great looking little gun! 4" coned barrel, blackened stainless slide, aluminum frame, night sights, a nice looking CNC scalloped treatment on the front strap, side and top of the slide. The rounded butt feels really good in my hand, and the grips are an attractive micarta/laminate.

Put 50 rounds of ball and 16 of Winchester Ranger through it last night, and a not a hiccup or bobble. Pretty much got what I wanted for about a grand less.

Can you feel me doing the happy dance?:D

I think Kimber did a much more attractive job of butt-rounding than the Ed Brown Bobtail, which just looks chopped-off. Congratulations!

You didn't ask if the S&W was available. They are back ordered bigtime.

Frankly I had forgotten about the Kimber. I had one of the early ones, but didn't keep it since I already had the Brown.

You should have a great time with it.

You did mention they were hard to find, Charlie. Hardheaded me just had to find out for myself. ;)

And so far, I am tickled pink.

Thanks, Snake. Yeah. the little bugger looks better in person than it does in the full page ads in Guns and American Handgunner. I like their version of the bob-tail better, too. No sharp edges.

It's the fourth Kimber I have bought, but I usually had to trade one in to get the other, money being a little tight. But I have had a Raptor II for near to a decade now. Never had ANY problems with it, or the others I had, including a TLE/RLII with the dreaded external extractor.

This little guy, so far, carries great, is more than accurate enough for me and looks like it will be as dependable as one can expect.
