Ok Guys, What's the standard for number of rounds stock piled for your battlerifle and hand gun. I am guessing 10k rds for 7.62x51 or 7.62x54 and maybe 1k for the .45acp? What about mags and bandos?

Well I have no more than 2000 rounds of any given caliber, at any time.... I have 6 mags for the m-1a, 7 for the AR, 2 for the sigpro, and 5 for the 92FS. But If I thought there was going to be a civil war or something, boy would I stock up...

The most I have are 7.62 NATO and 5.56 NATO 10-12 K's combined then, around 7-8 K's mix and match 22LR/22WMR, 25ACP, 380ACP, 38SPL, 9MM, 40S&W, 45ACP, 44MAG and 12GA. Just added more just in case.

Back in the early 80's I felt pretty smug when I finally cached an entire 1000rd. case of Winchester M193 ball. It is still wrapped in plastic inside a tall 50 cal. can for long term storage/burial. I have shot up many more cases since then...but I keep that FIRST case around to remind me that preparedness is a LONG TERM life style, not a bandwagon to jump on when times get "hard".

A person has to decide for themselves how much is enough...we all have different day to day financial pressures...but at least a case per caliber in RESERVE is my personal minimum. And 500 rds. of 45 acp or "whathaveyou" is not going to seem like very many IF THEY STOP SELLING AMMO through the mail next Sept!!!

Well I have just over 1k rounds for the M1 with 95% on enblocks. I have around 500 for the sks. Got around 5k of .22lr, 400 12ga., 800 9mm., 200 .25-06 for the hunting exploits. Running low on .45acp right now, only about 200. And about enough loading supplies for the black powder guns for about 200 shots. If I could afford more I would have it at this point.

I try to keep at least 1000 rounds readily avalable for for each battlerifle I own. For handguns, because I shoot so much and reload so much, I usually have about 1500 to over 2000 rounds for the semi autos I own and less than 500 for each revolver I have. Magnum class hunting rifles - usually only about 100 rounds.

I'm reminded of Y2K. I heard about several guys who bought guns and mags and ammo out the wazoo. One guy lived in a trailer and stacked up big cans of food in his hallway- I heard you about couldn't get down the hall. He supposedly said he had one gun in one end with 10k rounds and another gun in the other end with another 10k rounds.

THEY'RE COMIN' OVER THE HILLLLLL!!!!!

Seriously though, I'm not saying we shouldn't "buy it cheap and stack it deep", but the mindset I was hearing about was pure fear and no enjoyment of guns and shooting. I figure if we stock up because we enjoy the hobby, we'll have plenty when it hits the fan.

2000 plus rounds of 5.56 1200 of which is in mags

1000 rounds 9MM (I don't know why as I don't like my 9MM)
1400 22LF
assorted .38/.357
couple 100 assorted 12 Gau from 00 Buck down to bird loads.

Should last my 15 minute firefight if the time ever comes.

JR has been buying ammo for almost 40 years. He shot an awful lot of it up, but still buys when the price is right. He got caught short back when foreign ammo suddenly became so expensive in the late 80's- early 90's. His stash was the only thing that let him shoot regularly until prices stabilized. Now, using the buying power of case lots, he keeps well "ahead" of sudden increases in price. Besides, having shootable quantities for ecery weapon we own adds up to quite a stack without hoarding. Anybody else you know have 500+ rounds of 7.62 Nagant? How about 2k+ of 8x56R? Then, how about .22 long, .25 ACP, 9x18, 7.62x25, 9mm Browning Long, and so on? :-?

Never Enough...

All I know is that I will probably never have enough. 8) But my bear minimum to keep on hand of 7.62 mike mike is 3500 rounds. The last I counted (which was just before I made a 3200 mile move) was just a little over 17,000 rounds of assorted loaded ammo....and beaucoo powder and primmers. I remember thinking that in the event of a bad accident, the cookoff was going to be really something. My rule of thumb for a long time now is shoot one, buy two....while you can. (Buy mags, buy ammo, before bye mags, bye ammo.)
