SpecialEd,

NOT on battle-rifles BUT it was found that same day on another website. = An original TEX SHOEMAKER on-the-belt holster, in mint condition. - I still use it, btw.

yours, sw

IIRC, the stock on a Nylon 66 is also the receiver, then there’s a stamped steel “receiver” that goes over top to give it a more classic look. Anyone know what the official serial numbered “receiver” is on a Nylon 66?

Also in the way of commentary. Who remembers when the Nylon series rifles came out, and everyone was talking about the POS plastic .22’s that Remington is trying to hock? Oh man were they ever met with absolute scorn. Then a few got into circulation, and they shot straight and worked perfectly. Then the old timers kept saying…Sure, anything can work for a while, but there’s no way that thing is going to hold up to any high round counts. And of course, they did hold up.

Now days old timers wax nostalgic about what a great rifle the Nylon 66 was, and why can’t they make them like that anymore?

I remember reading an article from a gun rag probably back in the 80s (could have been a Gun Digest) about a guy who's dad gave him one when he was a kid and he absolutely hated it. When out in the field he took every opportunity to abuse the Hell out of the thing, stomping on it, throwing it in puddles, etc., so he could show his dad what a cheap, POS it was and therefore get another rifle.

He found out, of course, no matter what he did, it just kept on going. The damned things were nearly indestructible.

I can recall a friend of mine when we were kids had a Nylon 66 and him and I were treated as lepers, him with his plastic gun and me with my ancient relic that only shoots .22 shorts. Of course, me with my ancient Winchester 1890 could shoot circles around my braggadocios friend and his scope sighted 10/22. And I can recall the occasional stoppage of said 10/22, while that cheap POS Nylon 66 kept going. Even as a kid, I thought the Nylon 66 was a slick rifle. The sights were stamped steel, but they were fully adjustable and gave a superior sight picture to any of the other iron sighted .22’s that ran in my circles. I really wanted a Nylon 66, but we were poor and there was nothing really “wrong” with my 1890 (when in fact, it was worn the hell out!!!), so I soldiered on with my well worn out 1890 until I could finally afford to buy a .22lr myself. I finally picked up a Marlin model 60 after I found out that the “cheap” Nylong 66’s weren’t cheap at all, and that the all metal/wood Marlin was considerably cheaper than the space age Remington…I would later find out why. The Marlin model 60 was far more accurate than my friends 10/22, but it was a bit on the high maintenance side, while the Nylon 66 was a bit on the no-maintenance side! Eventually I saved up for a “good” .22 and I skipped the semi-auto’s altogether and bought a Marlin 39. Never did own a Nylon 66.

there's a BRAZILIAN variant out there-receiver cover is part 24410- ,part no 39,the stock is 25005 part no 52, for the Mohawk brown, although you'd probably be better off looking/buying a WHOLE USED RIFLE as these things don't tend themselves to reassembly ie you can marry a different barrel to the stock, receiver, but marrying all the small parts to the newer receiver and getting it to work reliably is a whole different matter- even some smiths I know won't touch it as they're "lost in space" when it comes to the nylon
