Friends,

I've found an alloy frame S&W Model 342 with a STAINLESS STEEL cylinder, rather than Titanium.
(The PO was a FWPD detective & thinks that this MAY be a precursor to the Model 642 & was one of the 1st Model 342 revolvers .)

SN: CZR828X

Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what it is & perhaps how many were made with SS cylinders??
(All that I know is that I've never seen one like it until now, but there are MANY things that I know NADA of.)

yours, sw

Maybe Something Like This?

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson lists the regular model as 342Ti but also makes a reference to a 342Sc. The latter is described as "Caliber .38 Special +P. Possible future development with a scandium frame, not currently manufactured. SHOT Show sample only."

Yours may not necessarily be the same thing but my guess is that it either is something similar or possibly one that was returned to the factory to be retrofitted - on request - with the stainless-steel cylinder. I have a vague recollection of reports of similar post-market modifications.

Charlie Petty,

I have emailed Mr. Jinks to see what, if any, details that he can tell me about the revolver before I give it to my lady for Christmas.

THANKS for the advice.

yours, sw

Charlie Petty,

I received a letter from a Ms. Sheryl Cheely (whom I've never heard of) that said that I needed to send her 75.oo for a "Letter of Authenticity", which I neither asked for nor probably even need to receive the simple answer that I asked.

I would presume that Mr. Jinks has not seen my email, so I emailed Ms. Cheely, declined to send her 75.oo & requested that she forward my original email to Mr. Jinks.

...that you'll have better luck (if you haven't done so already) posting your query over at the S&W Forum.
