We are doing a family heritage tour of small town Nebraska. Part of the agenda is recording data from ancestral graves.
As we walked through the cemetery in Hartington, my twelve year-old daughter was standing near a grave when a badger emerged right at her feet. She just about jumped out her skin. Evidently the feeling was mutual, because the badger retreated back to his hole and immediately initiated further excavations, slinging dirt about four feet out of the entrance.
Recording old family graves: rewarding.
Having something emerge from said graves at adolescent's feet: priceless.
