Okay, remember, this is NOT me, this is friends of mine. I report, you decide, and we all commiserate together, hawwwwwwwww!!! Is it any wonder I'm going to sink my teeth in to what my father left me in Backwoods, Puerto Rico, and hang on at all costs???

Last Thursday, I get back to a friend's building, housing the family business and apartments that he and his family live in. It was after a music gig. Another friend had joined us. I have mentioned these two guys in particular as having given me a seven year pounding during the previous administration, always sensing the politically intellectual inferiority in the room, and doing their Alinksy best to identify, define, attack, destroy, or at least control. All that by constantly showing me how much better their world view is than mine. Well, thankfully one friend has stopped his crap, being far more interested in his music, a GOOD thing, and usually, when the gig or rehearsal is over, there's not much time for socializing. And when we do, he's pretty much done with it. I think he realizes that he now has less evidence than ever that his world view really is that much better than mine. Four months after The Teleprompter In Chief was immaculated, having been so sure that his "true socialism" was finally come in the flesh, this friend was excoriating The Empty Suit. How quickly times change.

If any of you ever have a chance to look up Moth To Flame jazz, check them out, really good, and just getting started.

But the other guy, although not the intellectual powerhouse and knowledge storehouse the first guy is, nevertheless is a very intelligent man who can't get through a day of his life without finding the teachable moments for those around him, and making sure everyone's nodding in assent to his socialism is the way, truth and the life mantra.

He turns to me Thursday night in the office, while the bass player was checking e-mail and preparing for the group's web site launch, and beaming, proudly asserts that the Green Bay Packers Super Bowl victory struck a blow for socialism. This had come up because I have been watching Aaron Rodgers carefully for the past three seasons. I was happy to see him shove it up Brett's butt, although I was rooting for the Steelers. I predicted a 24-21 Packers victory, and had no problem with their win. It's still considered Brett's team, and Rodgers has attained a level of quality which matches Brett at his best, and already has one ring at 26. I was happy for him, and had congratulated my friend, because he is a Packers fan. We had spoken about halfway through the season and exclaimed our awe at Rodgers, saying if he kept it up, this could be The Year of The Cheesehead.

So, he comes out with that one and when I asked why, he said it was because the team is owned by the people, the city owns the team, therefore the people own it. The bass player paused to assent that fact, but did not get involved in the discussion, although seeming to support our friend's position.

Thankfully, that scene soon changed, and politics were not mentioned again. We went upstairs to the bass player's apartment and hung for a while, reviewing the group's progress, upcoming gigs and discussing the meshing of the gears since the drummer was changed three months ago.

SO, knowledgeable Jade East and Lentil Men, . . .

it would seem to me that the running of the Green Bay Packers as a business entity would either be done in a way that would EVIDENCE the workings of a socialist system, capitalist system, or combination of both. What it REALLY seems to me, the point my friend made, was nothing more than the horse manure I stepped on so much of during my recent 24 day business (and manual labor!!!) trip to Puerto Rico. It seems to be a point that is not a point at all. Here is a soon to be 55 year old, well read intellectual, seeming to just flail away in the futility of his own malcontent nature, in yet another attempt to prove a point that doesn't exist, by making a point that isn't a point at all.

BUT, in the interest of fairness, anyone here know whether a statement like that has ANY merit? Know anyone in Packers management? How they combine with the city to decide how the team is run? DID The Green Bay Packers strike a blow for socialism with their recent Super Bowl victory? Pretty interesting that in the past day, SEVEN of the Packers have come forward to support the left wing nazis that have invaded Wisconsin. Maybe Cheesehead will take on a whole new meaning. After all, too much cheese, without fiber, fruit, vegetables, etc., a BALANCED diet, WILL clog things up, including I guess, thought processes.

WHAT SAY YOU???

If he's a socialist, arguing with him is pointless, because socialists are not swayed by facts.
Every socialist system eventually comes down to brute force, because the very system is in conflict with human nature. If he doesn't recognize this, he isn't smart enough to engage in argument. If he does recognize this, but he is still for it, then he thinks he's going to be directing the use of force.
You haven't given me enough information to determine whether he is stupid or evil, but knowing he is a socialist narrows it down to one of the two.

He's neither stupid or evil. Surely you have seen cultural phenomena play out, in certain Eastern cultures during the 80's and 90's, how it is very often the well read, very learned and intelligent who are among those most easily deceived. He's laboring under a very logically arrived at, but in my opinion, that of many others here and throughout conservative America, all too deceptive conclusion. There is simply no end to the people who are deceived in to thinking that there is a near perfect political "system" that everyone, including violent criminals, will buy in to within a few short decades, and thereby see us all, . . .

living happily ever after.

The problem is, my friends and most of those who believe such things, at least in this city and part of the country, are not stupid, nor more evil than the Bible says we all are. They are terribly deceived in my opinion, and very clever at "winning" arguments. There's a logic only they understand. Little wonder that I am looking at spending at least 4-6 months a year at my place in Puerto Rico, beginning hopefully this year. Although I will be surrounded by a society that sees at least 70% of the people accepting at least one form of public assistance, and supporting that notion, . . .

that's not who I'll be hanging with down there. I am truly so sick to death of hearing these New Yorkers who cannot resist the teachable moments, and always leave the discussion with this self-satisfied grin as to having shown once again, their superior world view.

But if anyone who knows the operating structure of the Green Bay Packers and can take even a half-hearted stab at TRYING to explain why their Super Bowl victory strikes a blow for socialism, hell, just do it for FUN!!!

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Sadly, I've learned over the last few years that this is quite literally true. Arguing with leftists/socialists/liberals is like trying to argue with spoiled teenagers. They know what they know, and they know more than you, and they're not interested in anything else.

When there are more of them than there are of us, America is over. Frankly, I plan to go down swinging.

All too true. And there are indeed more of them than us, some are stupid and evil, but many of them are just too convinced of the deception that Satan wants them to hold to. And as for going down swinging, I intend to do the same, and it looks as though, all things being equal, a good deal of that will be done in a remote corner of Puerto Rico. Thankfully, at least for 4-6 months a year, maybe more after I hit 60, I can get away from it for that amount of time, if not totally.

A friend of mine has some shares in the Packers... stock shares? Sounds like capitalism to me, no matter who owns the stock.

My thought exactly. If there are shares, and they can be bought/sold, traded, handed down in your will, that's capitalism.

Now, if upon moving into Green Bay, you got handed a stack of papers "Here are your shares in the Packers, you have to turn them in when you move out of town" that's socialism.

Just took a look over at Wikipedia [ack, spit] and the ownership is suitably complicated in order to keep it from being moved, and with 112,000 owners of stock, likely to stay that way forever.

FWIW: The Packers' head athletic trainer, Pepper Burruss, is the president of the International Ammunition Association.

I will own one share of the Packers when my father passes. He has two shares gifted to him many years ago. The ownership situation was grandfathered in to the current CBA and now a team has to have one majority owner who is the face of the team at the owners meetings. It was done in such a way to prevent anyone from moving them to a bigger city. Shares do sell, I am not aware of the current prices but if the team is worth the Billion or so dollars it is claimed, I am sure they are not cheap
