Been looking for the "right" IHC Garand for some time.
Found this one on a gun forum, private owner. He had it for years and decided he would sell it.

Looks just like mine, which I bought in the mid-'70s. The stock on mine was beat all to hell so I refinished it (actually, twice now), but otherwise it's 100% stone stock as I bought it. Now I'm wishing I'd left the stock alone, dents and all. Ah shucks oh well. :-?

The bore on mine's moderately pitted but it still shoots like a champ.

LOVE the IHC Garand! Nice weapon indeed. I traded a guy for this one by H&R circa 1954 about 3 weeks ago...had it gone through and was told it was in excellent shape bar some gunk accumulation in the receiver...don't know much about H&R values but I traded a M1 Carbine from Standard co that was worth about $400 and was a constant visitor to the GS..Let me know what you think

Is it all correct HRA?
HRA's dont really carry a premium over other like condition SA post war rifles, even if a mixmaster you stole it

According to my gunny it's all correct and matching...haven't shot it yet but when I'm over this cold I'm going! Have you shot your IHC?

I have several all correct HRA's .If you want to know for sure either post pics of all parts or list a break down of parts. Also would need a pic of the DOD stamp and P proof
I can identify HRA parts that arent marked if have pics
Havent made it to the range yet

I used to go to the range once a week sometimes twice, its only 15 minutes away. Jjust been to much going on this year and I'm lucky to get there once every two months. It sure shows in my shooting to, you really get out of practice

(I wouldn't take love nor money for my (1930s SAAD rebuilt) 1917 Remington "mixmaster" that was "returned from" the British Home Guard.)

That's all Greek to me..lol But thanks, I just happened upon it on Armslist and the guy agreed to the swap. I had to drive 4 hours to meet him but I think I did ok..

ImVho, you did GREAT.

SAAD = San Antonio Army Depot
RRA = Red River Arsenal
and
RRAD = Red River Army Depot
(Texas-based rebuilders of US military rifles.)

NOTE: I've known ONE person who I believed that actually had an "as new" (and perhaps UNFIRED) Garand & my late friend Karl F. F__________ (late 2LT, IN & VAARNG) received his circa-1956 H&R in 1962 from DCM, when he was a senior at Washington & Lee. - His Garand is on display at The NRA Museum.
(Fwiw, Karl also placed his G-Grandfather's CSA dress uniform, Spiller & Burr revolver, Nashville Plow Works sword, holster & gun-belt in the NRA Museum shortly before his death.)

A couple of years ago I got an HRA from the CMP, it came from Anniston with a 1942 SA barrel.

Nice having a piece of history in your hands. I feel that way about my carbine...barrel and receiver are Inland and date to 1944. Probably didn't see WWII action, but from the looks of the stock it's been used a bunch by someone. The tales it could tell...maybe.

Thank Y'all, I do love the Garand and it is the quintessential piece to my collection of battle rifles along with the M1 carbine from 1944.
On another note from history, my great,great,great grandpappy was A.P. Hill. not much as far as a tactician in military history I fear but I claim him none the less. My G-G grandmother held onto his saber, belt,cloak hat and gun belt for years until she passed and my ******* relatives cleaned her house out before she was cold.
Oddly, I'm the only living relative that resembles his likeness and I received nothing of his...would have loved to have his saber.:mrgreen:
