I am just wondering, what is the difference here?
Both police, but different eagle?
Eagle/b or eagle/c ???

Why is it called b or c?

Those eagles are carrying what is known as a "hakencruez" or swastika. They were a symbol used in The Third Reich. Eagles are popular images in national Heraldry as symbols dating back to the Roman Empire and this includes evil empires like Hitler's Germany as well as benign republics like America.

My GUESS is that the markings are the names of the civilian contractors that made the holsters for the German government & the "B" or "C" is the maker's code for a particular contract..

Those are the name of the makers. Eagle over a C was a marking used on guns to designate police use, I think they also used an Eagle over an L, but I'm not sure about that one. I have never seen any holsters marked to denote police use.

It could be the name of the people who carried them, I was also wondering if it was a leatherworker's name. Either way, pretty neat.

One could check records of units in the area for names.

I wonder if there is any database of all the German holster makers? If they were general issue and not made by a small company that would almost guarantee the names were of the people who carried the pieces.

Those are definitely not the names of the people who carried them, they are makers' names. I looked at some of my books again and found that German police issue pistols were maked with an eagle over a C or over a K or an F or an L. these are believed to be police inspectors stamps. An Eagle over a B or a D, was found on some police holsters. The C, K F and L were only used on the guns themselves. I don't see any police markings on your holsters Berg. But all police holsters did not have those stamps.

Interesting. I have a small collection of WAA marked pistols from occupied countries but only one of the holsters: a French MAB Model D has a mark on the holster. It is WAA 020 (the pistol is WAA 251).

Just out of curiosity... what pistols fit those holsters?

That is the correct holster for your MAB mod. D, bud if you look closer the marking on the holster is WaA D20 (not 020)...

These holsters are not WaA marked, but german wartime police marked, and Otto Sindel and Schamback in this case fits 7,65 pistols used by the german police. It can be the PP, PPK, the S&S 38h and Mauser HSc...

I just put in a new topic, kpl. PP rig WaA359 pared with a WaA170 holster...

After further review I'm afraid I've given you some bad information. The second holster Sindel 1941 Has a police eagle and the last one does also. You can see the difference in how the wings are up higher and the eagle looks a little fatter than the one on the other holsters. Sorry for my mistake, years ago I spent a lot of money and time collecting Third Reich handguns. I had a safe full of P08s and p38s etc. Then I got into sniper rifles, but that's another story. I'm afraid I've forgotten some of the more subtle things about the markings. I really don't want to give out misinformation.
