Friends,

I'm not at all sure where this belongs, so I'll post it here.
(IF this post belongs elsewhere, the "mods" are welcome to relocate it.)

As many of you know, I'm now the proud owner of a M-1867/96 Danish Rolling Block military rifle, which it FORTUNATELY turns out will accept a slightly reformed standard .45-70 Government case, loaded with a HB 405 grain cast bullet in front of a case-full of FFG black powder AND that I plan to hunt wild boar, Red Deer & wolves with in The Ukraine, Moldova .& (perhaps) in the Czech Republic this Fall/Winter.

As I've about worked out a GREAT, accurate & suitable BP hunting load for the 3-band rifle, I'm now seeking a PRAIRIE BELT or MILLS BELT that is of leather & canvas, with at least 25 belt-loops for .45-70 cartridges.
(IF you have or know of a suitable cartridge belt for sale, please PM me.)

yours, sw

Have you tried a nitro for black powder load? They tend to be more accurate and much easier to work with while producing the same pressures. I used to know the conversion off the top of my head (4198 powder IIRC), but I'm old and senile now.

Kevin Gibson,

Have you forgotten that the places that I'm planning to hunt REQUIRE Non-citizens to use BLACK POWDER for hunting game??

And yes I'm planning on working up a smokeless equivalent BIG-game load too for other places.

That's OK, as I resemble that remark.

Nonetheless, my lady says that, "It's never too late to have a second childhood." AND "I don't know why you want to clutter up our walls with more 'dust collecting' junk from the taxidermist."

LOL.

Kevin Gibson,

While I'm likely going to retire to Nicaragua or Panama in 2017, I'm planning to hunt on a large private estate in the border area of Moldova & Ukraine this coming Fall/Winter for Russian boar, Red Deer & wolves.

I've a retired Navy friend who has considered Guatemala. He's a gunny and a hunter. Last OCONUS hunt he made was to Africa. Took small and medium bore rifles (2) and had a ball

csmkersh,

How does your buddy like it there?? And how long has he been OCONUS??

LOTS of us EOF (& that describes us retired military folks) are moving abroad OR already have.
(I can live like minor royalty on my Army pension in Nicaragua, Panama, Columbia, Guatemala, Peru, Indonesia, Malaysia & Thailand.)

Truthfully, I have little to keep me in CONUS once my 98YO mother passes away.
(My adult daughter has said that she will come to visit each year, no matter where I settle & planes go both ways, too.)

OK...I never served in the military...so: "OCONUS?"
Could it be Outside CONtinental United States?

TommyGunn,

Exactly so. = I was writing primarily to the CSM, who (like almost every other GI) knows that acronym.

Fwiw, the military service turned most of us careerists into "nomads", who are quite capable of "finding home" most anywhere on Planet Earth.
(In my case, I'd love to return to Venezuela IF there is ever again a fairly decent government there.)

Joel loved Africa, the people and the hunting, but he's Stateside again. Every once and a while, like 2-3 times a year, he considers moving to Guatemala because of the stupidity on Washington DC and sometimes Austin. As you said, one can live like a minor royalty on their G.I. pension. His kids are all grown and on their own. What he'd like to do this summer is ship his Vett to Italy and cruise the country. He's been there before so he knows where to stay and maybe even shoot a rabbit or two. His parents are already gone so, unlike you, that's not an issue for him. Right now with all the rain Texas is getting he's concerned the crawdads will take over his house. His little stock tank has overflowed and is creeping toward his back door. Being North East of Dallas he's gotten more rain than we have here in San Antonio.

Oh how cool!!! One of these days I plan to tour central American on my motorcycle. If I make it to Panama I'll be sure to look you up and buy you a cold one.
