Friends,

I've found a family-owned company that does GOOD, reasonably priced & relatively quick reboring of high-power rifle barrels. JES Reboring on OR
Home - Reboring by J E S is their web address.

To rebore/rechamber/return a deer rifle from .30-06 to 9.3x62mm or .35 Whelen is 240.oo total including S&H. - Turnaround time is about 10 days to 2 weeks.

NO, I don't work for them. = I just thought save our folks some of the time/effort that I spent looking for a reasonably priced & relatively quick completion.
(SOME "reboring companies" charge as much as 400.oo & have a "completion time" numbered in more than SIX MONTHS or longer. to do ONE barrel job. - One company said that if I wanted to wait for "about a year" that they could do the barrel for 475.oo.)

Kevin Gibson,

I wonder what his load was?? - I know where there is an IH Garand for CHEAP that has a RUSTED barrel. - That might be nice in .35 Whelen.

I would have never dreamed of a 35 Whelen in a Garand but obviously it worked. Any idea what it did for case ejection angle?

Hummer,

AGREED, though it's been done for years & years. = I saw my first Garand in .35 Whelen Improved at the Dallas Gun-Show in 1990 or so.

I asked the man about it & he said that he was very pleased with his rifle. = He had brought the Garand to the show to "send it home" with a gunsmith, who was going to mount a "scout scope" on it.
(I suspect that as a baby-boomer like me that he NEEDS a scope these days. - I for one don't do peep-sights well any more.)

Btw, I've NOW found a 2nd Model 760 with a shot-out barrel, so I may end up with 2 pump-guns in 9.3x62mm OR perhaps the second one in .400 Brown-Whelen, which is a "horse of a different color" for BIG bears, lion, buffalo, etc., etc. etc.

Fwiw, I shot a 8.5 pound BA .400 B-W last fall on the range & it "PUSHES" rather than "KICKS" & that round loaded with a 350 grain Barnes at 2200FPS is A KILLER.
