The "Sudden Impact" gun was an Automag. Charles Bronson used a Wildey in one of his movies .... the title of which escapes me.

Looking at those designs, they are quite fascinating. It looks like the Desert Eagle was the only "Magnum caliber Auto" to have lasting success.

I have to wonder if the Eagles' ability to take standard revolver caliber ammunition was one of the big factors there. Several competing handguns required ammunition unique to that maker and that gun. This meant scarcity, expense, or investment in reloading gear. A buyer of a .357 Desert Eagle, or the later .44 Magnum version, could probably find a box or two at the local gun store if they wanted to take it out to the range.
