The news of our old friend and boardmate Frank James's passing just got me to thinking, and wondering how many of the guys who were "Tribal Elders" back when I was still the snot-nosed kid on the board are left.

If your join date's before January 1 2005 and you read this, please, just toss up a quick "Still Here" or something, maybe a quick story of the old days from BattleRifles or Am.Back... something to let the middle generation know who's still kicking and maybe give the new arrivals a little sense of the culture we'd like to preserve here. :)

I know Patrick Sweeney didn't make the transition at one point or another, and Mas Ayoob is mainly sticking to his blog of late (understandably given his teaching schedule)... Chubby Pigeon still out there in TV Land, among others?

Some of y'all might remember me as "nedry" when I first joined, a reference to a certain Fat Bastard Dino Dinner and a slice of my past long ago outgrown.

I didn't think I predated your cutoff date, but I doublechecked and darned if I don't!

Hard to think of myself as an "old timer" at anything but maybe building model airplanes....

Bearcat, maybe I'm misremembering and mis-set that--always thought you came in around the time I did and we were "peers".

No slight intended, compadre. :)

I met Dean on talk.politics.guns and he invited my over to the Prodigy board. I joined 08-07-2003. When P* decided to dump us Fernando step forward with American Backyard. Worked as a moderator for a couple of years then just wandered off. Mike Stern told me AmBack had been sold and the name changed. I came here then wondered off again until recently.

Geeze, you and I have so much in common. I'm teaching my youngest currently with a 1/48 scale Revell B17G kit (I much prefer the Monogram 1/48, much better kit). My little one is just prime time in love with the B-17; takes after his old man. I'm hoping to take him down to the Sacramento air show next week because the "Sentimental Journey" will be there, and he's never seen a B-17 up close.

One more here from the Prodigy days. I was brought over by Mark Freburg and that's when I met all the other "old timers". When P* started price gouging I bailed and it took me a long time to find everyone at AmBack. I guess I just BARELY make the cutoff at Dec of '04.

Still the best group of gun guys in the interwebs by a good margin.

Funny thing, I'm working on a 1/200 Fort--some of my clients released a miniature based on A Bit O' Lace that has some huge marking inaccuracies, and I'm working up a guide to correcting it and using that miniature as a base for other 8th AF "High Vis" G-models.

Really tempted to screw with some gamer heads and buy another to convert into a YB-40... "Can Herr Messerschmitt come out and play?" LOL

The 1/48 "Revell" and the old Monogram B-17Gs are exactly the same kit. Only difference is the name on the box

Now, Revell (when they were two different companies) used to have a 1/48 B-17F, usually seen in "Memphis Belle" markings. Different, less detailed kit. If your kit has the chin turret, it's the old Monogram G. If it doesn't, it's the old Revell F.
