It appears I have one... or more. Despite having both Norton and McAfee running on my machine, I've got annoying ads sliding in from the side and top every time I change links. Clearing cookies makes them disappear briefly but they are quickly resurrected.

Anyone have a favorite rootkit remover ?

Two words: "F-Secure Blacklight." I usually use it in conjunction with Rootkit Revealer and Malwarebytes' Antimalware.

Mind you, that's in tandem with Microsoft Sec Essentials, Spybot - Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware--I'm a big fan of layered defense, since each of them does better against different threats.

If you decide to consider a Mac, Walt, I can help with any questions you may have. If you take the plunge, I can provide phone support during the transition, but it's not that big a deal.

It really is nice not worrying about security issues every time you turn on your computer, and if you have a few programs that you absolutely need Windows for, you can run an emulator right on the Mac.

Appreciate the assists, guys - I'm not sure I killed all of them but they're not popping up nearly as much.

I'm seriously considering moving to the dark side and getting a Mac...
