I Chose One...

...in the event that I ever need to harvest an elk or a deer. A major part of my decision was that I have a weak spot for Mannlicher stocks so I chose the International model. As I have no real hunting experience, I went with .308 so as not to add one more caliber to the reloading bench. (I can't imagine that I'd risk taking a shot beyond an estimated 200 yards, so the .308 should be adequate for my needs.)

The dealer who sold it to me noticed a hint of creep in the LC6 trigger and wanted to remove it for me. Again, as a novice to the hunting field, I don't want a "hair trigger" and the one out of the box feels fine to me.

Left handed .270 stainless & laminate here.
It consistently shoots sub MOA 5 shot groups for me & I'm no marksman.
Shooting clays @ 200yds off the bipod is 100% one shot one hit.
Trigger is a tad heavier than some hunting rifles I've fired but I actually prefer it due to shooting more often with military rifles than sporters.
I like the way it handles, LOP is fine & the included scope rings are a nice touch.

The Ruger bolt actions is probably the best designed safety I have ever seen on a bolt gun as it not only blocks the trigger from being pulled accidentally but it physically locks the striker from falling.

Up until now safeties on commercial rifles were not to be trusted for the most part. I would carry the Ruger with a hot load and maybe a few others but the majority I will carry with a round on deck because of the safety problem.

Military bolt action rifles generally have a system to physically block the striker from falling (03 Springfield, 98 Mauser etc).

Have a friend who worked for a large commercial firm who is somewhat known for safety problems and they were having a brain storm session on that problem in engineering one day and he suggested taking the word SAFE off the rifle as it implies it is when it was known it wasn't.

I do trigger jobs for friends and on a couple I have completely removed the safety as it gives a false sense of such. When I give it back I tell them not to chamber a round until they get on their stand and leave the bolt up as it is completely quiet easing bolt down prior to firing. They loved the trigger jobs. One guy had his guns stolen by a sorry wife and the one I did the trigger job on and removed the safety parts was his favorite rifle.

When I am out walking with my 700 I carry it empty chamber with mag full.
