"SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The gun used in the seemingly random slaying of a woman on a San Francisco pier belonged to a federal agent, a law enforcement official briefed on the matter said Tuesday.

The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity, said a police check of the weapon's serial number shows it belonged to a federal agent. The official declined to elaborate further."

This should be interesting.

That's more info than they were supposed to give out. Now they've got to fake a police report saying the gun was stolen.

Sgt Major, you sound just like a cynical old cop! :)

I generally don't give much weight to information given "...under the condition of anonymity", but it wouldn't be the first time a Federal Agent had a firearm "stolen". One report I heard yesterday, but not repeated anywhere, was that the gun was "...stolen from the agents car."

A few years back, several fully automatic weapons were taken from an FBI van, somewhere in Tennessee if I remember correctly.

The Sheriff of San Fran appears to me to be a total incompetent who has no business holding that office. A founder of the Green Party, he was a City Supervisor who reached his term limit and decided to run for Sheriff as a Democrat (loves those Political Office paychecks) and won against a career deputy who was well thought of by just about everyone in the Sheriff's Office. He was arrested on a Domestic Violence charge stemming from a New Years Eve argument with his wife. Lost his ability to carry (or possess) a firearm, suspended from office for a period of time by the mayor. Pulled some political strings to have the DV dropped to "Unlawful Imprisonment", and just had THAT conviction expunged.

San Francisco apparently got the Sheriff they deserved...

csmersh; Irish Cop,

I heard from a fellow in local LE here in SA that the government-issue pistol was stolen out of a POV, that was left UNLOCKED & that the BLM officer was NOT supposed to have taken home. = That's bad enough, without all the other numerous possibilities of wrong-doing.

In another case, the BATFE once had a bunch of FA (M-16 rifles) weapons stolen out of a car's trunk, that were left in a motel parking lot overnight. - That incident was QUICKLY "hushed-up".

yours, sw

Thank you, IrishCop.

I knew the weapon was supposed to have been taken from his POV but didn't know he was not authorized to take it home. What's bad is this will take the stink off an illegal killing someone.

Maybe, but there's worse...

I foresee the resurgence of the "security mom".

Well it must have been an "assault" pistol because the guy said he picked it up and it just went off..... Three times. Surely this guy would not lie about it.

By the Way...

From California Penal Code § 843b:
(a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws...
Note the reference to the Immigration and Naturalization Service - an agency that was absorbed into DHS on March 1, 2003. This statute - which I've quoted only in part - obviously predates the formation of DHS.
