We frequently get unwelcome visitors in the form of pesky critters in our yard. From ravens, cats, and snakes that try to dine on our bluebird eggs and hatchlings, to squirrels at the bird feeders, to deer munching the shrubs, to stray dogs who seem to be smarter than their owners, we get quite a menagerie.

Now I'm a guy who doesn't like to kill anything that doesn't really, really deserve it, so I'm not out to do any real damage; I figure the ravens, squirrels, and cats are just trying to make a living, just like I am. I would, however, like to discourage some of the more predatory behavior. To that end, I have decided to enter the strange world of Airsoft.

Having put my toe in the water, I'm astounded that every Airsoft gun I've seen is designed to look like a real firearm. I won't detour here into a rant, but suffice it to say, I couldn't care less about authenticity, and desire only two things: accuracy and power.

So, do any of you have any Airsoft experience? Any recommendations for a powerful, accurate shooter, preferably not a replica of something that will make me look like a pathetic wannabe?

Oooh, that was good...a forum cross-reference.

But seriously, folks, I've always respected the paintball world for making their guns look utilitarian and purpose-driven (not to mention that they choose to hunt something that hunts back). Why, oh why can't the Airsoft world produce one non-replica piece?

Airsoft doesn't interest me, but I'm trying to decide if the old Sheridan pistol and rifle in .20 cal makes sense for T&P in the shortage world.

We get critters too, mostly because my wife feeds them so that they'll pose for the game cameras she has positioned around the yard.

The only unwelcome ones so far are the skunks, 4 dispatched so far - one with a rock, the other three with a suppressed .22 ...

Daisy Powerline 860 has a rifled barrel and will shoot BB's or pellets and it is VERY accurate. I have a 4 power scope on mine. Just keep the barrel clean and free of lead deposits if you are shooting pellets. This is not a "Scare" gun but a killing one. I have shot pesky red squirrels that want to nest in my attic. It holds a bunch of BB's and will auto feed them when the bolt is pulled back but pellets have to be hand fed and don't put BB's in if you want to shoot pellets. We are like you, we don't shoot anything that doesn't bother us. My girl swept a garter snake out of our rec room, through the garage and will stop the mower to allow toads and snakes to get out of the way.

Captain Gyro I have not really handle one in years (my son's) but it was the M4 variant auto but the range was maybe 50' :dunno: and velocities low.But one of the kids at work has one that does 750ft/s now that's movin'.I can only suspect with that kinda velocity it has some range to work from a back window and would be loads of fun.I am like you no need in killing all the time but once the Boss gives the command and her plants are getting thrashed well.........
