Maybe some of you have heard or seen this stuff but not me.
A friend just showed me an unopened tin of 300 rds on strippers he claimed and an opened tin with the rounds available for inspection.Only thing is they look Identical to chinese copper washed 7.62! Like I said maybe you guys have seen this before but its a complete shock to me.The headstamp is as follows and I have 50 rds my self as well as access to hundreds more.Headstamp is as follows top to right, 60,nato circle cross,
L2A2,RG.The tim was stamped with ink similarly.I hate to do conspiracy theorys but misleading chinese ammo? Back to the ammo, the cases are clearly copper washed steel and the bullets I cannot be sure there copper washed as well but they are strongly magnetic so they are either thick steel jacketed copper washed or steel cored/both.Other than headstamp they just appear Identical to the chinese copper washed 7.62 right down to what appears as a laquer in the extractor groove.Does any of this make any sense?
I swear i havent touched the bottle in 7-8 years so no problem
there. I have no info beyond what ive already given you as Far as i
know.I havent seen a whole lot of chinese tin ammo cases(sealed)
so i cannot comment on whether the tins appear chinese, secondly did the brits use tinned ammo in the post war years??
Help!! NO ANSWER on WR

Radway Green; chinese sanitized?

Stiill no answer on WR or here so Im beginning to wonder ,the chinese were famous for exporting sanitized weapons as were many communist states. and even ammo.So assume this is similar in that its meant to mislead
whoever is being attacked etc. Wasnt all brit ammo even in the 60s packaged in regular ammo(USA) cans versus sealed tins anyway?

While I've never run across any, it's quite possible that the Chinese faked RG to avoid the US ban on their products.

I have seen Chinese M1 carbine headstamped LC. It was poorly made, corrosive, and oversized.

Keep the 50 rounds as a curio.

Chinese 7.62 from Norinco always tore the rim in auto-fire weapons, bringing the gun to a halt with the resulting jam. :D

I have seen this ammo discussed other places on the net and the general theory proposed was that it was sanitized Chinese ammo produced at the same time as the reverse engineered M14s being supplied to communist insurgents of the 60's and 70's.

You might PM Different as I think he might be in the know about the subject.

On a side note I have heard that it is very possible that it is corrosive ammo.

I don't know how the Chinese .308 performs in Full Auto weapons, but, I've shot a lot of it out of a .308 Semi Auto Galil with no problem.

I would always treat unknown ammo as corrosive, though.

JUst saw this post. About 4 years ago I was experimenting with many differnet kinds of 7.62 surplus, to see which shot the best in my AR10B. The best shooting was Norinco. I forgot to disassemble and clean everything, thinking it was all non-corrosive. Imagine my surprise when I finally tore the thing apart the following spring and found the bolt to be thoroughly pitted. I had cleaned the bore, but didn't field strip..

I blame the Norinco, as the rest of it was RG, Portuguese, Venezuelan, FN, US, Spanish, Swedish, & South African.

Lesson learned: always fieldstrip and clean! (I took the dealer's advice that the Norinco in the 20-round boxes was non-corrosive. As I recall, it was steel copper-washed stuff.) That was the last of my trial ammo, and I had shot lots of the other mentioned stuff before, with no problems.

There is some of this for sale over on Survivors SKS Forum right now. I have about 300 rounds of it that I have never fired, just because I know it is corrosive and I have lots of non corrosive 7.62 to shoot. Maybe some day when it is all that I have left.................................
