to all,

that dumb trick is NOT nearly as stupid as the HS kid in the town where i went to grad school, who told his friends that he wondered what dropping a lighted M-80 into a truck gas tank would do. = he won the Darwin Award for AR that year for that "experiment" in arson.

yours, satx

Well, I do know a little bloke who spent several evenings with Heinlein:
Jerry Pournelle's Chaos Manor

Of course I have a basic religious disagreement with Jerry. In case of trouble he reaches for his .357 Python, I reach for my 1911....

Geoff
Who should spend more time writing and less time reading. Sigh, so much life, so few hours in a day.
I'm still waiting for Janissaries IV...;)

After the obscenity of the Starship Troopers movie, I'd think the Heinlein estate is pretty thoroughly burned with the movie industry.

They screwed up The Puppet Masters pretty bad too. Course I guess they figured they couldn't have everyone running around naked, or nearly so, through much of the movie (that was the emergency measure in place to ensure a person wasn't possessed by a parasite).

Don't even want to think what they would do to Time Enough for Love or Stranger in a Strange Land.

Puppet Masters wasn't really bad, but then it wasn't made as a mockery of the book's values, as was Starship Troopers.

Stranger in a Strange Land simply invites wierd...

I liked Starship Troopers the first time I saw it and came to hate it in subsequent viewings. Ultimately it became one of the movies that cemented my cynical disdain of the entertainment industry.

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eek:mg:   :cluebat: :eek:mg: :eek:mg: :eek:mg:

I saw the movie before I read the book. I actually thought the movie was OK -- -- until I read the book!!!!

I agree Puppet Masters was a pretty decent movie. The upper body nudity of the book just wasn't going to happen in an American movie.
Maybe French or Italian.....but not American.

When I first heard about a Starship Troopers movie, I was stoked--until I started reading the reports and realized that the movie was going to be the polar opposite of the book, which I have read repeatedly since I was 13. You could say the book had a big influence on my concept of duty and honor.
All I have been able to stomach is parts of clips on YouTube.
The one showing troopers letting kids play with their rifles and ammo sealed for me that the movie is complete, deliberate, premeditated excrement.
