The evolution of a Recon Marine and his M4

You won't find a much better assessment of tactical accessories for the M4 platform than the one this Recon Marine gives. Throughout his deployment he experimented with just about everything you can hang on the AR platform, and everything you can shoot through it. He found out what worked, what didn't, and everything in between. He also decided that some useful accessories just weren't worth the added weight.

Interesting, like most soldiers in most wars, start off over-equipped and slim down as they learn what they NEED vs. what they want.

The use of the HB M4 as a squad auto is a good evolution. Our loadout for an infantry squad is becoming more and more like what the Russians have been doing since the early '60's. Perhaps they got some things right.

Nice AK, and I've always liked the POSP. The 400m POSP is THE scope for an AK.
I played with an SVD quite a bit and after you get used to the scope it actually works pretty darned well when you consider what the SVD was designed to be, which is a DMR, not a sniper rifle. Out to 600m the SVD reticle is fast and pretty darned spot on...beyond that it gets a bit iffy.

My Arsenal SGL-20 had an Aimpoint CompM2 which worked pretty well. I was planning on getting the exact same scope you have, but right after Sandy Hook, some guy offered me an obscene amount of money for the rifle and I was happy to oblige at that price. So now I'm AK-less, but I hope to remedy that sometime this year...AK's are just a lot of fun, and my kids really love how evil the AK looks.

I have some experience with both Chinese and Russian SVDs and I agree with Kevin more suited to a DMR and not a true sniper rifle like the M24 Etc.
