In a couple of weeks it will be the seventy-fifth anniversary of the raid on St. Nazaire. If you're not familiar with it (I wasn't) you owe it to yourself to watch this documentary. It's an amazing story very well done.
Going to watch tonight on the Firestick.I get all the movies before they even get DVD'ed that's how I watched "Hacksaw Ridge" back in the first week of January.
Brave and foolhardy. A glorious military mistake.
The Brits had a couple of coastal monitors they could have pulled the main guns and given the extraction armor protection. Monday morning quarterbacking.
I do like the part where the German Officer recommends a Brit for the VC.
Geoff
Who notes a couple of surviving Commandos managed to escape the Germans and ex-filtrate France!
'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd ?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley'd & thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.
