His path to distinguished service in the United States Senate led through the Naval Academy, aerial combat over hostile territory, and long years of confinement, beatings, and torture in the Hanoi Hilton.

He was a man worth remembering.

No, his name was not John McCain.

Six years before McCain's election to the Senate, Alabama voters sent retired Rear Admiral Jeremiah Denton to Washington's upper chamber.
Read the missive at the link. It's worth the time.

He's not unremembered by me. I believe his story was made into a book and movie called When Hell Was in Session. Correct?

Snake45,

Rear Admiral Denton is remembered by a minority of people like the members of this forum, as most of us are PRO-USA & patriots.

I'd bet that 80% plus of the voters have NO CLUE as to who he was when he was in the Senate & since he passed away in 2014, that FEW people remember him today.

SpecialEd,

I wore one of his POW bracelets too but I was 28YO & on AD at the time.

At the POW Homecoming celebration at The Cotton Bowl stadium, I was pleased take it off & give my bracelet to him.

Btw, after CPT Billy Gaunt, USAFR, from our church was taken prisoner, I wore Billy's, too. = As Billy was hospitalized at that time, I gave his bracelet to his mom.
(I attended Sunday School with both Gaunt brothers.)

Very cool Tex. When you're too old to make new memories moments like that will still stick with you.

SpecialEd,

TRUE FACT. = In the case of LTC Gaunt, USAF, Retired & despite what I had read in a "TX veterans newsletter", I'm pleased to say that Billy is VERY MUCH ALIVE & in good health, as of 10AUG18.
