There is no need to have an assault rifle. How many times have we heard that?
An incident occurred right up the road from me about three weeks ago that explains why such are needed.

A young lady came home from day classes at the local university, came in and turned the TV on and relaxed. She heard their dogs barking in the yard and thought nothing at first but then she heard a shot fired and looked out the window to see three males putting on latex gloves and heading for the house.

She ran upstairs, got her pistol out, called her Father who was working two miles away and said, "Get home now." and cut him off and called 911. While on the phone she heard them break in and went down to landing on stairs and yelled out, "You better get out of here right now."

The leader whistled and they departed so she went to the window and saw FIVE getting back into the car. Apparently two had got out before they pulled in the drive way and had gone to the back of the house.

Think about it, taking on five armed guys by yourself is not a recipe for success when all you have is a handgun which are not the best for self defense. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center has taught for years two shots to body and if still on their feet go for the head.

As they pulled out of the yard she gave the 911 Operator the vehicle description and within seconds an incoming unit stated he was passing the vehicle and turned around and they started to run. They were chased about 12 miles until they lost control and overturned with the car coming to rest wheels down and four bailed out of the car and ran.

That brought in the world and three of the four were caught that afternoon and the fifth the next morning at the home of a relative who claimed he was not there. A search of the house found him thusly she was arrested as well.

I have heard of a number of incidents like that.... someone, usually a woman, out in the kmddle of some country road, encountering a pickup truck full of miscreants. Sometimes a shotgun is used successfully, one incident I recall the lady, all 4 ft. 9 in. of her, used her husband's M-1 Garand to drive off several thugs. She fired several shots, without being knocked on her keister (she was actually quit proficient with the Garand).
AR-15s and M-4orgeries are becoming quit popular home defense weapons.
And let us not forget the Korean store owners in Los Angelos during the 1993 riots, using those dastardly evil black rifles indefending their stores from the looters.

To All,

ImVho, we NEED to KEEP ON attacking the "main-SLIME press" & the "anti-gun LOONS", for calling rather ordinary semi-automatic rifles & shotguns, "assault weapons" as simply LYING.

I make a practice of "calling out" our local TV & radio stations (and attacking their DISHONESTY to the station's advertisers) for ranting about "assault weapons" & imo, we can STOP this intentional dishonesty by the press, IF we continue to do that necessary task.

yours, satx

Some irony.

Some talking head on the news was commenting about the guy who openly carried an AR during the black lives matter demonstration in Dallas. In the same story, she said "why would he think he needs such a weapon?". Uh HELLO???? What was it again they were protesting???

When black lives didn't matter, what did MLK and Malcom X do? They armed themselves.

Shall I link you to the thorough skewering of that BS artist, who by the way has a (((SUSPENDED LAW LICENSE))) over her unethical conduct trying to get Phil Spector off for murder, over at RedState?

Even Wikipedia has her assclownish incompetence noted...

"An 'assault rifle' is a 'select-fire' weapon. I would like to have the ability to afford one, but a Direct Impingement AR rifle will suffice.

That woman is...

The "village idiot" that's missing from Washington D.C. "An attachment that makes the gun shoot faster". WOW! (I think that she needs a new manual).

This woman is so uninformed, she thinks Manual Labor is a Mexican! :eek:mg:

In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny... "What a maroon."

Rhetorical question: what makes Swiss-cheesing someone with an Ugly Black Gun any more heinous than ramming the muzzle of a Fuddtoy up their arse and blowing their guts out their shoulders?

For that matter, what makes either so much more heinous than Dropping Trou and beating the hapless target to death with Mister Happy?

LOL, true, just using reductio ad absurdum to make a point... "beat to death with a frozen trout" just didn't seem to have the same impact.

There was a time when the Winchester repeater would have been considered an 'assault rifle'.

I'm a big supporter of the citizenry having access to the same small arms as the military and law enforcement.
Chuck Connors, AKA, "The Rifleman," would agree!!!!:cryinlaugh:

Seriously, good point! ;)

imo, it makes sense to have an "assault gun" when YOUR'E THE ONE BEING ASSAULTED- usually these goons attack in force and there just isn't time to fire and reload
When you are being assaulted, you should have the ability to permanently stop the attack. The ability to strike any number of assailants multiple times to bring the deadly encounter to a close is the imperative.

It is as simple as that.
