Hi. I'm totally to this forum but not to guns. I have a very nice M1 (Garand) and an M1 carbine (Winchester) & thought it would be neat to add an M1A. I know a little about the M1A but not as much as I'd like. I lean toward getting an earlier (pre 1994?) model with a bayonet lug and selector notch so that it looks as close as possible to original GI. After a quick look at local gun stores and online sources, my impression there are not a lot of this type of M1A available. Modern models are certainly available and seem to sit in the $1700-$1800 price range. I'm not a hunter & don't shoot as much as I'd like but I really appreciate my current M1's and have always liked the M1A/M14. To me, it always seemed like what the Garand should have been in the first place. It's kinda fun to ponder what WWII would have been like with the M14. I did a moderately deep look in this forum but didn't see anything that addressed my question. I hope my question makes sense. If not, don't shoot - haha
