The Zumbo thing went WAY too far, there were people posting his home address and advocating others kill him; that's just crazy stuff. I don't buy gunzines anymore even though there are still some truely outstanding writers out there...they're few, but they're out there.

I did just yesterday see that as I quickly thumbed through G&A while waiting for a prescription at the store. I didn't bother read it, but I said to myself...It's either someone just pointing out the obvious...or someone who's looking to kill his career.

I personally beleive that some regulation can be reasonable at times; such as background checks. The problem comes when such ides get implemented and generally butchered into some bastardized shell of what was originally envisioned.

And clearly the Heller decision made room for regulation; that's case law now. But I get concerned when people talk regulation because there's always another agenda behind it...always.

So I didn't read the article, but gun people are extremely protective of the 2nd Amendment. For a career gun scribe to pen such an article in a gun magazine is just a really bad idea.

I quite agree re the threats of bodily harm against Zumbo, but believe that the "declare someone an unperson in the community and make them socially radioactive" tactic does have its place and was somewhat warranted--besides, when Nuge stepped up that let him see that when someone sees the error of their ways we CAN be forgiving.

I think the biggest problem a lot of folks have is the cynical knowledge that Militant Hoplophobe douchenozzle politicians will have absolutely NO qualms whatsoever about Moving The Goalposts. For example, if we agree to legislate that CCW has a shooting qual to the same standard as a beat cop, what's to say that next session they won't up it to demanding the standards of SWAT? or to say that you have to shoot a perfect 1500 out of 1500, one-handed with your off hand?

I mean, having seen how the other side on this issue (and, sorry, Democrats in general with DAMN few exceptions) welsh on promises at EVERY opportunity, I just don't believe they can be trusted with any degree of leverage weaker than a big Chambersburg Die Forger like in the S&W plant ready to drop 20,000 pounds of force square onto their scrota (scroti?) in play.

It's a battle, no doubt about that. I'm always willing to listen, but don't be surprised if I don't agree or trust politicians one iota. And while it is a Democrat issue, there are more than enough Republicans willing to sell the issue down the road; they're politicians...it's what they do.

True, which is a big part of the big GOP Civil War that's going on. Frankly, to me the fact that we've let a KNOWN crook like McCain (remember, Keating Five?) even remain associated with us, never mind ever be our candidate for highest office in the land, is a blight upon our reputation and we should have dealt with it LONG ago...

Wasn't the aptly-named Dick Metcalf involved in some sort of financial scandal involving IPSC or some other competitive operation or event a decade or so ago? I don't think I ever had any details but I do recall reading hints of it, and apparently he only barely avoid being fitted for an orange jumpsuit. Anyone have or remember any details on that?

I read the official response from Jim Bequette who is the big boss.

He also stated that a new editor has been appointed.

I actually know Jim and he is 100% a gentleman. I doubt that he had any prior knowledge of Metcalf's piece (which I haven't read) for those things don't go to his level for approval

Dick is/was the president of the Pike-Adams Sportsman's Alliance (PASA) range in Barry, IL. It is located on his family farm. PASA has been the host of most USPSA national matches since the mid-1980s, along with the Masters International Shooting Championships. I seem to remember that the Masters basically fell apart in 1995 when high-value sponsors pulled out at the last minute.

Anyone else suspect that Metcalf will have another career as a 'reasonable gun person' sacrificed at the altar by barbarians?

Nor will he be the last although I'm not sure which group of "barbarians" you mean.

But Dick and some other suicidal gun writers made the mistake of NOT knowing their audience and did the equivalent of playing russian roulette with a fully loaded gun.

The other problem is, what he said, even if it was with the best of intent as SAF's Dave Workman (who I know to be a stand-up guy from personal experience) believes, his words enable the enemy.

there are times to be especially careful about one's word choice in public fora... which might seem to contradict my own public persona, but I'm not considered a "major player" and openly admit to being a Loose Cannon.

And they're off! CNN hosts mini-panel on First Ammendment vs Second Ammendment with the aim of making gun rights folks look like barbarians who don't allow free speech. Link on Washington Times website.

Funny how they ignore this when it's liberal yahoos/yahooettes shouting down conservatives.

William R Moore,

AGREED 100% - I will forever remember the female Harvard prof who, at a SEP2010 TP Rally in DC, "got in my face" & started SCREAMING & CURSING hysterically, "YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SPEAK (obscenities deleted). - NO RIGHTS AT ALL".
Then she attempted to have me arrested for "disturbing the peace", as she told the USPP that I was "being inflammatory". - She was even CRAZIER after the USPP officer started laughing AT her tantrum.
(But of course she is a radical LEFTIST & they are always " 100% correct in every rectal emission". = SARCASM button ON.)

yours, sw

I guess thats what happens when you consort with the enemy ......all's done but the cry'in.

Months after former Guns & Ammo magazine columnist Dick Metcalf ignited a firestorm by advocating stricter gun control laws, he claims he has been blackballed from the industry.

"I've been vanished, disappeared. Now you see him. Now you don't," he said in a recent New York Times interview.

And now that he's shown his true colors:

"Boo hoo hoo hoo freaking hoo. Go suck a turd, monkey..."

According to some, he's long been hostile to pistols and "those scary icky Black Rifles"... but this is when he finally slipped and let it out in a high-visibility venue.

A couple bits of rebuttal Food For Thought to throw at this turdsucker and his ilk...
