For the first time ever I did a movie on Christmas day. The grandsons were up for the week from Kalifonia and wanted to go see Unbroken.
I had some reservations about a Angelina Jolie directed movie but it was very good. It's based upon a true story of a WWII bombardier and his survival from a Jap (can I say that?) POW camp and the brutality of it.
He lived long enough (97 years) to see the movie finished..that's all I'll say.

Fox News had a a profile on Louis Zamperini on a few days ago. He was the kind of American that makes one proud to be an American.
The movie, according to one post in another forum, left out his post-war life. How he turned to religion and also the other problems that dogged him.

On Christmas day at my cousin's he remarked that he was reading the book and read one third of it in one day. It's apparently an engrossing book -- and a much better book than movie. That however, is pretty much "par for the course."
I have the book ... just haven't read it yet. That will be rectified soon.
And Ratfink2u, I suggest you to buy the book and read it.
THAT'S how good it sounds ....

Yes, Unbroken is an excellent book and story. Laura Hillenbrand is an excellent writer. She also wrote Seabiscuit, which was of course, way better than the movie. I just don't see the appeal of Toby McGuire and his one-dimensional performances.
