I was watching a program on Egyptian history and noticed that the museums seemed to have armed guards. What really caught my eye was that they appeared to armed with......wait for it............Uzis.

While I wouldn't care to be one of those guards facing nutcakes with AKs, at least it's a step, even if startling, in the right direction.

It could be Israeli, the Egyptian military is on semi-cordial terms with Israel.

More likely it's the Chinese clone.

Egypt's small arms for their military and LE is like an arms collection...they seem to buy pretty much everything from Chinese Type 56 rifles to BREN 805's, and everything inbetween. I'll bet their Quartermaster General has a drinking problem...I can't imagine trying to keep everyone supplied.

While I'm sure the other option was a handgun, and I'm sure everyone would pick an UZI over a handgun...I wouldn't want to be armed with an UZI when my attacker has AK's. But, you have to dance with the one you brought...so you can bet your arse, I'd be getting REALLY good with an UZI. It is a very good SMG from a reliability standpoint. But the first time you haul one up to eye level, it becomes painfully apparent they weren't built to "match" grade.

In that part of the world the QMG probably buys from whoever offers the best bribe.... or whatever label they apply to the 'present'. Or gets told who to buy from because someone higher up on the food chain got duly appreciated.

Thinking back, I don't recall seeing spare mags, unless they were real small cap.

The Uzi was also manufactured by FN and South Africa.
Copies were made in China and several other companies.

I'd think the Egyptians got theirs from South Africa or FN.
If Egyptians found out they were buying Jewish guns there's be a lot of shouting.

South Africa is very closely aligned with Israel, so I don't see that. FN is a likelihood. Certainly China is a possibility.
