Thank you for posting this, it is absolutely fascinating.

The CMP Gunsmiths must be amazing, in some cases it looks like a pass with a bit of Murphy's Oil Soap on the wood and WD-4///// Hoppes on the metal will be all they need, In other cases, they must be very skilled to get guns reconditioned and out the door.

Some of those finds were mind blowing, makes you think about what is out there. It also makes me wonder if some of those nations that were "lost" still have warehouses with U.S. made gear, and if one day - following a change back to democracy - they might once again be able to deal with the CMP as well. Lots of stories out there, floating around. As a history buff, it is awesome.

What I want to see are a boatload of carbines returned. The $1,500 plus at auction is too costly for me. I screwed up and let my buddy have mine for what I paid for it not try and find a nice one.

As to the Garands, about time Obama got another kick in the shins. We're supposed to get 8,000 Army M1911s this year. CMP 1911 order form packet will be posted on the CMP website thecmp.org on 4 June 2018 for download.

I just watched the video, and it wasn't what I expected. It's amazing they got around--An M1 in Afganistan in the 21st century?! Kudos to the soldiers who recaptured the rifle for bringing it home!

Aren't there still a bunch of Garands and carbines in ROK? ISTR the Obama administration impeding their return.

csmkersh,

ImVho, ODUMBO fully deserves a swift kick in a quite different location, repeated until he apologizes to EVERYONE for being the WORST excuse for a POTUS, ever.

Of course that skunk isn't man enough to admit that he was unfit to even be a local school board member.

Unboxing is always exciting. Back in the '80's when I worked for Pacific International and ARMEX, when shipments came in it was always exciting. There's always something really special to be found (like IHC #1 they found). Some of the rather incredible things I stumbled upon were:

M1 Carbine in original wax wrap
Brand new, in the crate Vickers with all the tools and accessories
A crate containing over 100 Schnellfuer-Broomhandle Mausers, all in outstanding condition
As best e could tell, an unfired/unissued MP-44
A stainless AC-556k...from China.
A completely hand made M&P revolver from China. But the grip frame was that of a broomhandle Mauser, as was the hammer. It was the most bizarre thing I ever saw

As well as some unexpected things:

One crate had several RPG-2's at the bottom.
One crate had 16lbs of C4
One crate had a box of Russian hand grenades
Various rifle grenades, anti-personnel mines, mortar rounds, etc.
It was always VERY unsettling when we came across ordnance because it was always OLD, and sometimes stored in less than ideal conditions. Bomb squad were regular invites to our warehouse. They were very nice and had a very good sense of humor. ATF never once got pissed about the ordnance, they were always much more worried about the guns.

When opening the crates came up, I thought about a possible reality TV show. GunGeek could host...

Yeah, could be like Storage Wars. Guys could bid on crates, and then open them up and see if they'd made a profit.

Yeah, that's the one I had in mind. I don't watch TV, so was trying to remember from references. I'd watch this show, though!!

That could be fun... but what happens if they find boomstuff and don't have creds for it?

Hmmm... maybe crates opened in-warehouse and a Buy-Sell-Trade table to "trade in" things you can't take home with you.

Make that on-site before Case Cracking begins... I was thinking for the "safe, inert but new owner doesn't have needed FFL or magazine facilities" type situations. :)
