True that, Good Sir. It is getting rough down there. Morena Baccarin, an actress many know from projects like "Gotham" and "Deadpool*" has been in Colombia, interviewing and documenting refugees fleeing Venezuela lately.

*I first noticed her in the short-lived ABC reboot of the classic "V" series a couple of years back. She played the head nasty Alien and was easily the standout of that show. I kind of felt bad that it didn't last longer. Especially after they brought Marc Singer back for the Season finale cliffhanger episode.

I remember her from "Firefly" and Serenity"
She will always be Inara to me. ;)

She was also the lizard queen on the reboot of V, and got nekkid (briefly) in Showtime's Homeland.:p

To All,

As numerous members here know, I once was stationed in Caracas, fell in love with the country & planned to retire there.
(I had even "picked out" a small farm, with a nice 5-room farmhouse, to buy upon retirement, from one of my local friend's family.)

NOTE: I was NOT nearly as "excited" with COL Juan O_____________'s wife constantly saying that, "Diego, once you are settled, you should marry my youngest sister, 'Luz'. She will make you a lovely, alluring, devoted, wife & give you children. You've been a widower for far too long."
(CHUCKLE.)

THEN President Perez left office & the first of two new Socialist/Communist Presidents entered office & started RUINING the country, trying to turn VZ into "a clone of" Communist Cuba.

ImVho, "My lovely & beloved Venezuela" is NO MORE & I fear that I will never live long enough to see the nation recover from the (perhaps permanent) damage done to the country by the 2 RADICAL LEFTISTS.

yours, sw

I visited Caracas Venezuela as part of a Caribbean cruise circa 1970. It was a nice country, and met a number of good people. Made friends with a cab driver we exchanged Christmas cards with for years.

Sad, what evil political leaders will do for power .... how many people have been hurt....dumpster diving for food ... raiding zoos.

TommyGunn,

Indeed so, - What two leftist tyrants & their cronies did to "MY beautiful Venezuela" is a crying shame.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of our great members & their loved ones, from both of us.

Unfortunately many brutal dictators, both leftist and fascist, are able to seize power because they have strong support from a large segment of the population. While many Venezuelans probably foresaw what was coming, many more fell for the allure of coddling by a socialist government which promised to "redistribute" the wealth.

That faction has gotten exactly what they had coming.

Haven't you ever heard of continental tectonic shift?:neer::rolleyes:

Seriously that was a brainfart. I blame a lot of ♤♡◇◇●⊙☆¿¿ on spellcheck mess-ups, but I guess it won't work now  .

Anyway, I corrected the original post. Spelling doesn't count.

TO All,

IF this works out, I may be "out of here" soon & back living in Caracas. = I'm sure it will take some time work to fix the MESS that has been made in "MY lovely Venezuela" BUT now at least I have HOPE once again for getting to retire there.
(A little bird told me that my "old place" is VACANT, needs remodeling but is "more of less intact" & I'd bet that I can round up my house-staff QUICKLY, if the current trend becomes permanent. - I wonder where my "Teresa" is & what's she's doing. = She was REALLY good at running the household & I'd bet it wouldn't take her a week to find the skilled people to fix up/restore "El Lugar Sombrio".)

So far it looks like street protests and fighting, then again, that is just what is getting out to American (USA) TV.

I am kicking myself, I just realized I should probably check Telemundo and Univision for what they are putting out.

Good luck to you and to yours, Doughboy.

Speaking of the news, before Fox cut out today, from their Venezuela coverage, I saw Armored vehicles and a few troops with tear gas guns moving into positions on a street. Then, on a nearby overpass, I saw some armed men breaking out ammo boxes full of belt ammunition. I figured things were about to get pretty intense, then the video went to whatever else Fox was doing. Since then I have seen on the Internet that things indeed did escalate. Armored vehicles driving around doing donuts in spite of nearby crowds, some bursts of automatic weapons fire, and one of the vehicles driving around with the top side on fire, possibly from a Molotov cocktail. Smoke was also seen rising near a hangar at a Helicopter base.

The U.S. is backing the Pro-Guaido forces, at least through Press Releases. What Russia or China might do is of interest, both have troops in the country. Not sure of how many. I would hazard a guess that the Cubans have folks on the ground as well. Given how much oil and cash the Chavez regime used to send to Havana, the Cubans won't be fans of change. So, we'll see where it goes, now that it is at this point.

csmkersh,

TRUE. - In another generation, I suspect that ODUMBO's misadministration will be looked back upon as the WORST of all the President's administrations. Perhaps by then the FULL effect of BHO's coven of crooks/creeps/haters/drones/bigots/socialists will be known.

Well, I watched some Telemundo and Univision today, they are showing more from Venezuela than the English-language U.S. Networks.

Part of me hopes that certain folks associated with the U.S. Government have been training certain Venezuelan expatriates who really want positive change in Caracas, either out near Eglin Air Force Base or at certain places in the Everglades. I'm not sure that the U.S. does that sort of thing anymore, though, and I am not saying that it would be option number one.

To All,

Personally, I think that we need to start a (Spanish language) POWERFUL radio broadcasting station, perhaps on an offshore oceangoing merchant vessel, that can be easily heard all over VZ, like the old Radio Free Europe, with a mission to promote a nationwide uprising to throw out the current government, the Russians, Chinese & the Cubans..

I would call it: RADIO FREE CARABOBO.
