It's a commercial receiver made out of billet steel you can read here Springfield Armory looks like less 3000 made.

Bearcat I wonder sometimes did Jerry build this rifle he did write up a book on the M1 Carbine and definitely not out of his realm to do such a thing :dunno: Too Bearcat while looking at Rock Island Armory auction the way they list is OK just not detailed enough but maybe some auctions by them are more so than others? The one thing I did like is how they pair guns and I guess this is an individual cutting two, three, four guns at once.I missed out on some nice sabres and swords abit back really like the French naval stuff from the 1700-1800's if I had been online would of p/u one or two at some great pricesbut got out bidded by 25-50 bucks:rolleyes:

Javlin,

Keep your eyes open for MORE "mint condition" or even "unissued" Venezuelan 24/30 Short Mausers. = I saw a "large room full of" racks of similar brand new Mausers in Caracas in 1991. - Given the mess that the VZ economy is in, I suspect that they will be soon exported for needed cash.
(VZ bought the Mausers for the Gardia Civil but never even issued those rifles.)

Also, when I was last there, the arsenal at Carabobo had "racks & racks" of unissued/"as new" Model 1893 Mauser "long-rifles".

Stan would be nice to catch an unissued long rifle from Venezuela but hope the market does not get to flooded.

Javlin,

The national armory at Carabobo & at Caracas had (at least when I was last there in 1992) several BRAND NEW Maxim MG with all 'the goodies". =I saw a pair at Caracas armory that were still in the "factory preservative" from Steyr, circa 1908.

I would love to be able to examine something like that up close not necessarily shoot but admire the craftsmanship from a bygone era.;)

Javlin,

Once I'm retired OCONUS, I want to buy a "brass mounted" Model of 1907 MAXIM gun, with all the "goodies", by Steyr.
(As they are >100 years old, they are considered to NOT be "weapons of war" there but rather are classed as "antiques" AND may be lawfully possessed & fired freely if you have a gun license/permit.)
In the USA, was it NOT for the utterly foolish "Machine Gun Ban", they would be a "C&R item" here.
(NOBODY would pick a CENTURY OLD water-cooled heavy MG, that weighs over 100#, to "rob a liquor store".)

yours, satx
