I was driving by my local airport yesterday, and I got a surprise.

I saw some beautiful, huge rotors peeking up. Bigger than the rotors of the choppers we usually get, when we get them. I thought they might be from a Skycrane, but they were unbelievably bright and just beautiful. I then noticed they were attached to a Marine "Marine One" Executive Chopper of the type the President uses. I then noticed that there were three of them, lined up, side by side.

I got my camera, and pulled into the parking lot. Marines were on the tarmac, chilling out. Neither their flight suits nor the choppers had a single speck of dust on them. Local Police were out, also chilling. Plus there was a small crowd, which got steadily larger over the course of an hour or so.

I filmed this video just before the three helicopters departed. The roll out was beautiful. One doesn't see this thing every day, I believe the whole crowd there felt privileged. Big ups to the USMC, they know what they're about!

Rumor in the crowd was this was a way station between D.C. and New York, Charlie. I think that must have been it.

Those are VH-3 Sea Kings, flown by HMX-1. 'Marine One' is ONLY used for the helo the President is actually riding aboard.

That's right...the shame shouldn't be indiscriminately applied to all of the squadron's choppers.
:) Amen.

The former Marine that runs my preferred gunshop hereabouts was assigned to HMX-1 and guarded the birds that transported Bush the younger. He has some pretty humorous stories to tell including one about a guard shack with a big red button inside.

And strict instructions to never, ever push it...

Walt: "Ex-Marines are In The Ground, Old Marines Are Still Around." :p

That looks like an old Italian Autoblinda AB-41 in your new av... drew WAY more of the silly things than I ever wanted to see back when I was collecting the Axis & Allies Miniatures wargaming line.

Sometime in 1990-1992 I heard a loud noise where we were living. Went outside and saw a large helo escorted by 2 smaller ones pass directly overhead. Went back inside and heard the Pres had recently left Richmond and was heading home.
