I read the actual text of the above bill. It's aimed at rifles and shotguns with pistol grips located below the action. Add on the list of threaded barrels, flash suppressors, adjustable stocks yada, yada, yada.

Any shotgun that'll hold more than 7 rounds of whatever the longest shell it will chamber would become an Assault Shotgun.

The replacements aren't any improvement-assuming the Lt Gov /AG will step up.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) - Several callers to WHSV have reported traffic delays along Route 33 in Rockingham County in the area of Spotswood High School.

VDOT's 511 website shows heavy congestion in both directions of Route 33 in the area of the high school.

Tonight, the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors is holding a public meeting at the high school to discuss a resolution on becoming a Second Amendment sanctuary.

But, the Gov has been understanding enough to offer the idea that currently owned "assault firearms" could be grandfathered. If and only if registered.

There's a report that'll he'll have the NG enforce his laws if LLEA won't. Granted, I learned history a long time ago, but IIRC, the last time troops were sent to seize arms on this continent, it didn't work out as intended. Assuming the NG would accept the orders.

Crowd in Spotsy estimated at over 1000. Snarky comment about "mostly white".

Walt Graham,

Northam is NOT the ONLY stupid LIB in government who seems to want to forment VIOLENCE. = Those who encourage violence are usually among the FIRST to pay the price for doing so.

Over the last 4 decades, I lived in VA for over 20 years & I KNOW how dangerous that it would be to even try one of Northam's LOONY leftist schemes outside of NOVA.

yours, sw

This is a rather off the wall site, but the points are interesting. It is worth remembering that Gov. Northam could easily have been broomed by his party after his scandal with the yearbook photo a year or so back. So, his party has the ability to put a lot of pressure on him. So, the question arises of who is actually in the driver's seat for the VA Democrats. It could be the old liners, but it could be someone else, too:

I expect the guv is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bloomberg.

The AG is another story. Several years back, a student in Philly used his Virginia CWP to defend himself and 2 companions from assault by a group of guys. Assault captured by the street cam of the local Fox affiliate. Lead thug was crippled for life and also politically connected. Lot of screaming and posturing about the state recognizing the VA permit and how awful that was. After acquittal, the VA AG decided that reciprocity with PA wasn't a good thing, PA being "deficient" in back ground checks. PA cheerfully rescinded their reciprocity AND recognition of VA permits.

I normally snicker at conspiracy theories, but this one kinda hangs together.

A guy on a VA board I frequent noted that it was almost as if Northam wanted to foment violence...
A fella from VA said he's been to two meetings with 1300+ in attendance at each meeting that's a few folks,I would not doubt if 30-100K show up at that event in January and the guberment should think while not armed that day what if they were?

Javlin - there were some places.. like spotsylvania where the estimates were over 2k-3k. Not just standing room inside, but a whole host of people outside. I dont see 30-100k showing up on lobby day, but I very much do see 10-15k doing it. It's easy to show up when it's in your back yard, figuratively speaking.... when its a few hours a way and supposedly cold out.. thats a different level of commitment. While I'm sure there are a lot of folks that will show.. there will be many that cannot.. for whatever reasons.

I have to hope that if VA called up the National Guard, President Trump would Federalize it and stand it down.

If states and cities can be "Sanctuary States" as far as Immigration and Drug Laws, that of right should be in effect due to the Federal Supremacy Clause, then the same road leads to "Gun Sanctuary" policies. There is even a whole can of worms, that I would think that the Left would not want to open, where one could argue that Federal Gun Laws, and the Supremacy Clause, would preclude local restrictions on types of arms legal under Federal Law. I sometimes wonder if that is one of the Supreme Court scenarios that give certain folks fits.

In short, the whole "Sanctuary" mania on Immigration and Drug policies has started us down this road of modern "Nullification," and that can always lead to a mess if everyone starts picking and choosing as they see fit.

Sometime last week I read that the officer who runs the VNG had a meeting with the Guv and told him words to the effect that his troops were not going to be enforcing any of the guvs laws.

Gov has banned firearms in the Capitol area. Realistically, there's reason to believe ANTIFA or fellow travelers may show up and incite violence/ be violent. And, of course, will be wearing counterfeit gun rights stuff.

The "justification" is that there is information that white nationalists plan violence. State Police cited as source. While I sort of expected ANTIFA to show up, I have to wonder how solid the information is. The whole thing has more than a whiff of a smear to paint the lobbyists/demonstrators as racist extremists.

No longer have contacts to suss the level of confidence of the allegations. If we had a truly free press, they'd be on this like flies on horse apples.
