Hello All,
This is my first post. I'm always debating with myself and searching for the "ultimate" concealed single stack 9mm. Yeah, Right!. Looking to anyone and everyone's opinion on what you would select out of this list. Additionally, Yes, I know there is no ultimate CCW. That would be silly to think that there is such a thing. LOL. I'm only considering single stack magazine, no safety 9mm handguns. Yes, I know that there is exceptional option in Single Action, such as, the Sig P938 and a great selection of double stack magazine options but for this poll I'm mainly concerned with the handguns in this list. Please comment on the reasons why you selected one of the handguns in this list. If you select Other, please by all means let us know what you selected as your choice and your reasons why. I welcome everyone's comments good and bad about any and all the guns mention.

I've shot the Sig, XDS45, and the Beretta and I like them all for all the reasons you can imagine. Of course, any of the following would serve the purpose of a CCW but I want to get your views. Take into consideration that whichever one I would decided upon I would change out the trigger and add night sights(Sig already has NS) for whichever has the capability to do so.

These three are existentially same in size (smallest)
Sig P290RS 6/8rds Hammer fired no safety 20.5oz, 5.50in length, 3.90in height, 0.9in (1.1 in with slide catch lever) width Trigger9lbs
Beretta Nano 6/8rds Striker fired no safety 19.8oz, 5.63in length, 4.17in height, 0.9in width Trigger not listed
Kahr CM9 6rds Striker fired no safety 15.9oz, 5.42in length, 4.00in height, 0.9in width Trigger not listed

Similar in size (largest)
Springfield XDS 9 7/9rds Striker fired no safety 23.0oz, 6.30in length, 4.40in height, 0.9in width Trigger 5.5 - 7.7lbs+/-
S&W M&P Shield 7/8rds Striker fired no safety version 19.0oz 6.10in length, 4.60in height, 0.95in width Trigger 6.5lbs+/-

All but the Kahr have extended magazines 8 to 9 capacity. The Shield with no safety is due out in a month or so(most likely the so) and will be the only way I would purchase it.

Prices vary everywhere of course (guesstimates at best):
Sig P290RS $475-500
Beretta Nano $400-500
Kahr CM9 $350-400
Springfield XDs 9 $475-575 $475 at Spring Guns and Ammo down the road here.
S&W M&P Shield $400-450

Give me your opinion of the ones you like the most for CCW?

I appreciate your response.
Thanks,
Terry

piscator,

1st, WELCOME ABOARD!!!
(I used to live in Harris County & now am resident in Bexar County, near downtown SA.)

MY choice is an even less expensive Sig-Sauer: The "compact sized" FLAT & easy to conceal P-225, which is now "discontinued" but readily available on the "used market".
(Mine is a P6, German police surplus, SA & it's nearly always on my belt or "within reach".)

Even my adult daughter, who has "smaller hands", shoots the P6 quite competently, though her usual CCW is a ex-Bulgarian police issue 9x18MM Makarov.

just my opinion, sw

Hey SW,
Yes, my father has the P250 medium and my mom has the P250 compact 9mm. I've shot both and they shoot fine but they seem to big for my body type to conceal properly. I've shot the P290 and really like it but like the P250 you have to practice a great deal to become proficient with the trigger. It's still high on my list in my minds eye at this point that is why I'm having trouble deciding on any in my list.

I appreciate the info. Thanks for voting.

Keep the votes a coming!

Thanks,
Terry

Well, to tell a family secret, I am a gun slut. Totally promiscuous that way. :D I have several different guns I carry, depending on the circumstances.

I bought a Shield 9mm about a month ago, and it has become my favorite (for now, anyway. I have no problem with the safety. I carry it daily as my duty weapon, and the safety hasn't ever just magically engaged itself. I carry two spare 8 round mags, and the gun holds nine in my strong side Safariland holster.

I have also been known to carry a Kimber Super Carry Pro, one of three J frame S&W's, and occasionally a Ruger SP101.

Wouldn't that be a 225 and not a 250?

SpecialEd,

Why THANK YOU for exposing my "senior moment". = You are of course 100% correct & I was, of course, 100% wrong.
(These things happen as we get "more mature", read: OLDER.)

SpecialEd, et. al.,

In any case for 300-400.oo in NRA EXC or better condition, the Sig-Sauer P225 or P6 is imVho one of "the gems" of used/compact/CCW firearms.
(I paid 375.oo + S&H with 2 extra mags, 2 LH holsters & "hard case" for my APR 1982 surplus pistol, OTD, about 8 years ago in "looks unused" condition & have never felt, whether carried ON/OFF duty, that it was anything but an "UTTER BARGAIN" at that price.)

I bought it because it was:
1. a 9x19mm,
(in a state where Constables were THEN required to carry a .38spl/.357mag revolver OR a 9mm S-A pistol)
2. FLAT & EASY to conceal under a "polo shirt",
(It's HOT much of the year in that Dixie locale.)
3. suitable to wear in a "duty holster", should I needed to wear a uniform
and
4. seems to happily feed/shoot any 9x19mm ammo, that I've tried from "somewhat questionable" surplus SMG, US standard FMJ ball ammo to +P "flying ashtrays".

just my opinion, sw

The SIG P-6 was one of the "great guns." I tried to buy one when we moved to FL. By the time the surplus guns were on offer I had already put a bundle into the Kahr 9094N.

Most of the German Police outfits used them, and several Governments around the world. Rumor has it SIG will still make a run if you have a contract and are a UN member.

FWIW a lot of engineers bought those guns, and some computer folks.

Who notes so many interesting firearms, so little money...sigh.

The P6 was probably the first centerfire gun that I coveted. (that and the H&K P7). I never had the money when the P6s were available and the P7s have always been out of my reach. However I do have a very nice West German Makarov and a CZ 83 in 9mm Makarov that fill that niche nicely. The CZ even holds 12 rounds.

SpecialEd, et. al.,

Within the last week, several NICE Sig P6, a handful of P225 commercials and even some SWISS POLICE models, which have up to now been quite RARE in the USA, have sold on "gunbroker" for about 300 - 325.oo+ S&H.

I'm "seriously considering" one of the Swiss models, "just cause".

Btw (It's a secret. - Don't tell a soul.), "a little bird told me" that the Ukraine is about to "surplus off" their MAKAROV PM police pistols.
(That's WHY I'm only "seriously considering" a Swiss version of the P6. - My source, who is an OB/GYN in Ukraine, tells me that many of the Maks appear unfired, as they've just "been sitting in an armory" and she recently bought an "as new" Mak for the equivalent of about 45.ooUSD, for concealed carry.)

yours, satx

I use full size 1911's in either .45acp or 10mm because
I want power if/when I need to "blast" somebody
Is all that power necessary, especially in warmer climes? More comfort and less power usually means one is more likely to have the weapon with them at all times.

P.S. You might try laying off the BOLD, it defeats the purpose if everything is BOLD.

SpecialEd; CDM; All,

WELL SAID, SpecialEd.
While I have any number of "full-size" handguns to choose from, I find (even at 6' tall & 179#,) that a full-size Colt's GM or any other similar size/weight pistol is "difficult to conceal" under Summer attire & HEAVY to carry 24/365.
(That's one good reason why I bought a P6 for CCW.)

just my opinion, sw

I don't have any problem ALWAYS carrying my 5" 1911's and I can carry it IWB under a [reasonably snug] t-shirt without
notice, but I do have a very athletic build so it's easy. Unfortunately many people have "tubs" for waists which doesn't
work at all for easy conceal carry.

Also I happen to like all bold....
