Which one would you select for CCW?

Which one would you use for CCW?

Hello All,
This is my first post. I'm always debating with myself and searching for the "ultimate" concealed single stack 9mm. Yeah, Right!. Looking to anyone and everyone's opinion on what you would select out of this list. Additionally, Yes, I know there is no ultimate CCW. That would be silly to think that there is such a thing. LOL. I'm only considering single stack magazine, no safety 9mm handguns. Yes, I know that there is exceptional option in Single Action, such as, the Sig P938 and a great selection of double stack magazine options but for this poll I'm mainly concerned with the handguns in this list. Please comment on the reasons why you selected one of the handguns in this list. If you select Other, please by all means let us know what you selected as your choice and your reasons why. I welcome everyone's comments good and bad about any and all the guns mention.

I've shot the Sig, XDS45, and the Beretta and I like them all for all the reasons you can imagine. Of course, any of the following would serve the purpose of a CCW but I want to get your views. Take into consideration that whichever one I would decided upon I would change out the trigger and add night sights(Sig already has NS) for whichever has the capability to do so.

These three are existentially same in size (smallest)
Sig P290RS 6/8rds Hammer fired no safety 20.5oz, 5.50in length, 3.90in height, 0.9in (1.1 in with slide catch lever) width Trigger9lbs
Beretta Nano 6/8rds Striker fired no safety 19.8oz, 5.63in length, 4.17in height, 0.9in width Trigger not listed
Kahr CM9 6rds Striker fired no safety 15.9oz, 5.42in length, 4.00in height, 0.9in width Trigger not listed

Similar in size (largest)
Springfield XDS 9 7/9rds Striker fired no safety 23.0oz, 6.30in length, 4.40in height, 0.9in width Trigger 5.5 - 7.7lbs+/-
S&W M&P Shield 7/8rds Striker fired no safety version 19.0oz 6.10in length, 4.60in height, 0.95in width Trigger 6.5lbs+/-

All but the Kahr have extended magazines 8 to 9 capacity. The Shield with no safety is due out in a month or so(most likely the so) and will be the only way I would purchase it.

Prices vary everywhere of course (guesstimates at best):
Sig P290RS $475-500
Beretta Nano $400-500
Kahr CM9 $350-400
Springfield XDs 9 $475-575 $475 at Spring Guns and Ammo down the road here.
S&W M&P Shield $400-450

Give me your opinion of the ones you like the most for CCW?

I appreciate your response.
Thanks,
Terry

Take a pill, Mr. Obsessive...
Just trying to provide a little enlightenment through constructive criticism. My title is not Mr Obsessive but rather, Forum Administrator. Obsessive is continuing in your ways even after it has been pointed out that it is considered rude and in poor form... the act of a "Newb." You can learn from the forum or presume to know-it-all. Listen to the man, CDM. He knows whereof he speaks.

Take a pill, Mr. Obsessive...
Ed's been with us for a LONG time, he's just trying to help you fit in a little better. Don't take it as Ed being rude, or critical; just helping you to get the feel for this forum and how we do things. We're a tight group, many of us have been trading threads since the early '90's when we were at Prodigy. You're very welcome here, we're just used to certain etiquette.
KevinGibson; CDM; All,

YEP. Agreed 100%.

yours, sw
Gun preference is up to the specific individual. I wish I had a dollar for every person that has walked to the counter and said "What gun should I buy?" Or "What is the BEST gun?"

I have cops that live by the Smyrna Kool-Aid and will scream if you pull out anything but a tenifer pistol (Glock), but I personally don't like how they feel and/or shoot in my hand. Of your list of choices in the poll, my least favorite would be the Nano followed by the Kahr (they both feel terrible in MY paws. My first choice would be the Sig, and a close second would be the Shield.

I would add that your ammo choice and fundamentals/perception of felt recoil (tolerance) will have a huge effect on which gun feels better to you. Out of smaller guns, the Federal Guard Dog (105gr EFMJ designed by Tom Burczinski) is a good choice due to lighter recoil and better feeding due to the EFMJ.

I am not a huge fan of the 9MiniMum as they are more prone to feed issues and also failure to expand when compared to the .40 S&W when almost all the guns mentioned have equivalent guns available in .40.

Hope this helps.

Two more pence, for what they're worth...
I pocket-carry exclusively, currently a J-frame, but if I go back to a 9mil, it will be either my Kel-Tec P11 or PF9.
I normally pocket carry a j-frame, but since acquiring a M & P compact in .45, I've found that I'm opting for it even in warmer weather.
If I *had* to carry a 9mm, I'd probably be looking for a Commander or Officers'-size 1911 chambered for 9mm NATO.

That may just be my personal bias toward the 1911 platform, though; as noted, try the various options out if you can and see which fits YOU best, as this ain't a One Size Fits All game and what works for some of us doesn't work so well for others.

I like to see what I write and if that makes your panties twist into a bunch you need to get a grip and stop acting like little girls.

If that is beyond your mentality, intelligence and you're too "delicate" to handle bold print [dear God] then that is your
problem, so grow up and [again] take a pill.
The last time I heard a statement in that vein, it was coming from my 11 year old grandson.

I told HIM he was being childish.

I think you may be close to becoming persona non grata around here, CDM.

DAYMN!!!

Last time I saw a statement like that in a forum, a Curmudgeon from Long Island smacked them hard with their BAN HAMMER!

CDM, I would advise you to sit back and take a couple of deep breaths and attempt to see the situation fully and properly.

Most forums have certain rules about comportment and decorum with regards to how things are posted into the forums. Those that don't, usually have issues with anarchy and members running amok. You may be a long time member of other forums where any behavior is allowed, but SpecialEd was not attempting to embarrass you or call you out in front of members, he was trying to nicely let you know that the way you were making your posts into GunHub is not in a manner that is considered proper by many forums and their owners/admins.

Where it goes from here is that the ball has been nicely lobbed over onto your side of the tennis court. You have two choices of how you proceed.... 1) You can take what warnings you have been given and make the choice to not post in that manner OR 2) You can continue on in this confrontational manner, ignoring what one of the Forum Admin has said to you, and hope that they do not enforce the forum wide rules that you agreed to when you registered, and remove your privilege to read/post (ban!) on GunHub.

You are a newer member of this forum, so you are unaware that many of us here have been involved in online forums for over 30 years and have seen/read it all. That is part of the reason the rules of comportment are written as they are.

Now, to get this thread back on topic.....

One weapon you may want to consider would be the SigArms P239 which is one of my favorite carry weapons. Mine is in .40, but they make it in a 9mm as well.

the positive points of it are that as a single stack, it is thinner than the P229, but as a bit of a mid-sized weapon, it is much more stable in your hands, has a longer sight radius and by the larger size/weight is better at dealing with felt recoil.

Additionally, you may want to consider having a smaller handgun in addition for purpose of backup or as I call mine "my American Express Card" (as in when Karl Malden used to say in the ads "Never leave home without it"). Mine is a Kel-Tec P32 (they make a 380, but it is the same size/weight and the larger round has more recoil) with a CC Mfg "Pocket Slipper Laser Aimer and a Belt Clip on it. I carry mine like a wallet in my rear pocket, but I can also (with the belt clip) wear it inside the waist band of any pair of pants including gym shorts without pulling them down! And for those that would say that it is a "Belly Gun" and only good for close up range .. HOGWASH! I had mine at one of the *P SSBB Shoots in SC and we did a test where I fired it rapid fire doing quick reloads (someone was loading the mags while I was firing) at a 48" Bowling Pin shaped popper target at 40 yards in bright sunlight (so the laser was useless) .. and I hit 100/100 on that target .. This weapon gives me the ability to be armed anywhere I am (unless they have metal detectors!), and I have even been through police pat downs (at a tough man contest) where they took/held onto my pocket knife, then let me in with a GUN!

Yeah I know...I'd like to see some other guys come back; I miss Sam.

I just tried to call him but got a voice mail.... have not heard from him in about 8 months or so.
Sam, Mas, Dean, Frank James, Walt Rauch... even in my relatively short time here, it sure ain't the same place as it was ten years ago.
