Folks,
I was looking for a flashlight with mountable possibilities and cruised my usual haunts. The Surefire (TM) displays have vanished from the LGS' and the one place that had been a big dealer had only a rack of marked down G series units.
I did see some high cap Surefire magazines hanging on various racks.

Any inside knowledge of marketing changes by Surefire?

I don't have any info on Surefire, Geoff, but I'd be curious to know why you're not happy with Streamlight. I've got a few of their products, and have always been pretty satisfied. I've tested them while attached to my 12-gauges using full-house buck and slug loads, and they've always survived just fine. To date, I've never had one fail.

I've always felt that they represent about 90% of the value of Surefires, at less than half the price, and they get good reviews on most of the sites I've looked at. I'd be interested to hear the other side of the story, though.

I bought a Streamlight penlight that suddenly went bad on me in less than two months. After finding out that returning it for warranty would cost as much as a new unit..I forgot about it.

Charlie, the owner wasn't in, the clerk was new. The other store was busy as heck on a Wednesday morning and I didn't see my usual guy (owner's son.)

I'm looking for a dual power which is easily selectable (some have become so complicated that by the time you get it on your obit will be in the newspaper.)

Fenix and FourSevens seem to be a bit on the pricey side...

I have had a Streamlight ProTac AA for four years now (gave everyone in my family one and the four guys who work for me too) and haven't had a lick of trouble. As the name implies, runs on 2 AA batteries, has a bright, low and strobe setting (which I could live without ) but it's been a real good light.

Sorry you got a lemon, Geoff.

I bought one of the very first Streamlight rechargeables- 3 cell size- and the first night I carried it caught a storebreaker in the act... froze him like a rabbit.

Carried it for years. Had to buy a new battery and then the switch started acting up, but the dealer fixed that on the spot (n/c)

Charlie I remember carrying a three cell MagLite and thought it was great...till a buddy got one of those Streamlight rechargeables and showed me what I was missing.

Catching a burglar dead-bang was always my favorite pop when I was on patrol. :D

I'm still looking and even more confused. Streamlight, Surefire, Fenix, FourSevens ...
a vast assortment and little knowledge can lock up my alleged mind.
CR123 for weight and power go for around $50 and up. Not much discount from the usual sources, even Walmart seems to be selling at the same price as everyone else.

Geoff, the Streamlight I referred to in my post is lightweight for it's size and power and runs on 2 AA batteries. Very bright for it's size. Not it is not sold as or presumably tested as a weapons light. And it is small in diameter. 7/8"'around the head and tail cap and 5/8" around the body. Don't know if there is anything out there that would work.

I did mount a pocket style flashlight on a Bushy years ago but one ich rings fit fine. no performance issues.

The local Gander Mtn had their house brand "350 Lumen 4-Source Tactical LED Flashlight" on sale for $39.98 marked down from $69.99.

Something to play with..until I get the time/single switch options down pat.
