I never rode a train pulled by one either, but don't you wish America's electric locomotives looked more like that instead of those horrible excuse for a design AEM-7's and ALP-44's??? And don't you wish that today's passenger diesel locomotives looked more like EMD or Alco cab units? And about that new Acela and those other "Eurostyled" trainsets, don't kid yourselves.
Ever see the Union Pacific's M-10000 or M-10001??? We invented the "bullet train" back in the 30's and then 20 years later decided passenger railroading didn't fit in with our plans, and now we're drooling over super fast "Eurostyled" and Japanese "Bullet Trains."
Hey, we invented train speed. We had passenger trains going at speeds of well over 100 miles per hour pulled by STEAM locomotives 100 years ago!!!
But we decided on cars instead.
Okay, I can dig it, we decided on cars, although now Americans and American politicians are clamoring for more passenger rail service.
Could someone please tell them to let General Electric know that its Genesis Series diesel locomotives are the most disgusting looking thing that ever pulled a train, and to perhaps consider bringing back "old fashioned" carbody styles?
Just a thought. Okay, back to work.
