A Candidate running for Congress in Ohio has had his re-enacting work become an issue because he dressed in a Waffen-SS outfit for some re-enactments of battles.

I think this is a sad thing to go after someone for, have met different re-enactors and it isn't about endorsing Nazism, he's trying to do the history and show people.

There are some comments at the story links below. WARNING some seem to come from people who have no idea what re-enactors do and are looking to score cheap points.

By their logic, all the Civil war re-enactors who portray Confederate Army soldiers are Pro Slavery. All the Revolutionary war re-enactors who wear Red Coats are Pro Monarchy anti Constitutionalists? Any Hollywood actor who portrays a Russian is a Commie Sympathizer?

It's Theater. also known as Make Believe.

"Those who don't understand the past are condemned to repeat it."

Better to pretend that Nazism did not occur? Perhaps, if your party is trying to reintroduce it.

Yes, I believe that the current administration is accurately described as "national socialist." The term basically means the same as "crony capitalism": Play along with the state and prosper. Resist the state and perish.

Yeah, I'm in the middle of drafting a note to rip Anderson Cooper a new one with a blowtorch over this one.

People like him are a big part of why I'm an EX-journalist... and as a profession, with few exceptions, I've had diarrhea with more integrity than the lot of them combined.

Wow. First off, it's great to see Javlin around. Been thinking about you. Hope you are well in Missississississippippippippi. Say hi to Brett. He'll be returning soon, VERY soon, but he may get something chopped off upon his return. Get ready to attend his funeral.

But more importantly and returning to topic, I wanted to underscore the feelings I got reading this thread. I didn't even go to the links posted. I know what's what here. And I want you all to know one of the biggest reasons why I will always fulfill my promise to Fernando years ago, to always find a way to do SOMETHING with regard to keeping up content on this web site.

It is because you are my people. I may never meet any of you, but you are my people, my fellow Americans. You see the signs of the times in our "once great republic" just as I do. I was hanging out with someone I've known for 39 years yesterday, a man who has been better than a brother to me. He has fed me, clothed me, sheltered me, employed me, subsidized me, accurately diagnosed and treated ailments and injuries, and is the most fun to be around of any person I've ever met. An incredibly knowledgeable man, I've also been educated by him in a multitude of ways. Over the past few years, he has built one of the finest jazz/fusion quartets (at times a trio) that you will ever hear.

But ideologically he is not my people. And all around me, including other best friends of mine and relatives, co-workers, former co-workers, neighbors and neighborhood shopkeepers with whom I have good relations, I still don't see my people.

Every single one of you here has said something profound with regard to what I personally have been witnessing and remarking on since 1977. And every single one of you has said it as though you were inside my head. As I watch the rise of the Tea Party movement, though encouraged, I refrained from registering to vote this time. I have a hard time believing, when I watch the vortex of filth, the swirling toilet that our Carnival Culture (meaning politics, social issues, everything included) has become, that The Great Tribulation is not at the door. I want to see whether or not the dough that is being kneaded actually rises, and if the Tea Party candidates actually attempt to govern and vote according to what they are putting forth at present.

But I am truly encouraged whenever I come here. Living in a city of about ten million true residents, with about four (yes four, not four million!!!) of them being true conservatives, it's hard to tell sometimes if I'm just not the one who's wrong, or crazy. I know I'm not, but it's still not easy clinging to that. And to see the Clockwork Orange youth base, and adults all the way up to their late 40's, being so ignorant of what's taking place, and so WILLING to become slaves, is very discouraging. To see the millions of people across the land who on a daily basis only want to pay tribute to their various sensual desires, rather than gain some discipline and insight, makes me believe that the tide of filth will overcome any goodness.

But I come here, and in the midst of a bunch of people I may never know, I still see, very clearly, all "my people." Thank you. And thanks to Fernando and those who keep up this forum.

Was eine gruppe von miststücke!!

Our political rhetoric has sunk beneath the level of a bunch of terrible two-year-olds!
Because this politician chooses to role-play a Nazi in a re-enactor group ....
Hey! Someone has to play the bad guys!

Harry Reid would be swell in the role ..... he wouldn't even have to act!!! :neer: :poke: :neer: :neer: :cluebat:

Well Bloo I am a little more optimistic than you ATM but that could change a year from now.I feel that at least a good roadblock is about to be throw up to all this non-sense coming out of DC.Our friends over seas would of done us a favor if they took out DC this time but knowing that they said let them kill themselves.I think that part of the problem w/DC could be resolved in term limits and from that the lobbyist would start to go away.Neither one of these two groups help to serve the people but only DC and special interest groups and not the US of A.What will be interesting is to see the hard core left's reaction come NOV 3 while the media claim that the right is the phsyco's I think we have seen more agitated responses out of the left.

PS:And DB I listened to Jindal on the radio one day just talking comes off as very impressive and smart much better than the fomal interviews I have seen.Kevin

I certainly hope you're right, or to quote an ancient Israeli king, "at least there will be peace in my lifetime." Now, will there be? I don't know. I don't have such confidence, but I sure as hell hope you're right. I didn't exactly grow up in the lap of luxury, and I went from the ghetto to a career that fell flat when The Bowery Savings Bank got caught up in the foolish practices of 30 years ago. Since 1982, my life has been mostly a journey through rough, rougher, and roughest. I'd LIKE to think that as I prepare to turn 54 in a very short while, that at least 'there will be jobs in my lifetime.' But even that may be too much to ask. We're being crushed in to slavery. The dunderheadedness of too many of the American people as pointed out in this thread makes me think the future is nothing but bleak, bleaker and bleakest.

If the worst they can find on him is what he wore playing a fictional role, how bad can he be?
