I need to remove a barrel from its reciever, never attempted it before. Any advice? I know I need a wrench and barrel vice, anything else? Thanks

Taking the barrel off isn't the hard part, putting a new one on is the challange, lots of iterations while you get the headspace correct. If you are going to do this exercise too, you will need to order a good set of headspace go, no-go and field gauges!

Removing M1 barrel

Orlando,
I would suggest that you wrap the receiver bridge near the chamber with one strip of duct tape to keep from marking it up. Insert the barrel into the barrel vice, which is itself firmly fixed in your bench vice. Put the receiver wrench over the duct taped area of the receiver, making sure the wrench is firmly fixed on the receiver around the chamber area, and pulll down. Remember "Righty-Tighty, Lefty-Loosey". Once you bust the barrel loose, it will unthread by hand. If you do this and something seems "wrong", stop and look at the work closely. The Garand is one of those items that either fits together easy and smooth, or YOU are doing something wrong. Mr. Garand made sure a blind man could put his weapon together by feel. Any forcing is wrong, wrong, wrong. Have fun!
